What application do you run to check your FPS during a game?

I am new to this and saw a video that someone playing HON and left for dead, the on the bottom of his screen there is a frame rate number flickering/changing as game goes on.

this is obvious but in case you didnt know
whenever you are running games developed by Valve, enable your console (~) button, then just type in cl_showfps 1

MSI afterburner, you can monitor your hardware performance as well as the onscreen display of FPS, GPU usage, temp etc

easily the best.

For l4d
1. Open console
2. Type "cl_showfps 1"
2.b. 0 turns it off. 1 shows fps. 2 shows smoothed fps

And for hon, im not sure but in dota you can type in /fps so might would work in hon too.
