| Province cracks down on bullet-proof cars
New law one of two effective Feb. 1 that target gangs and organized crime. Gunshot and Stab Would Disclosure Act now requires hospitals to report gunshot and stab wounds to police.
Outfitting your car with bulletproof glass or secret compartments could now land you in jail.
The province introduced legislation on Wednesday making it illegal for most people to drive cars with clandestine cubicles and armoured siding – features presumably only gangsters need anyway.
“The only reason … to add (these things) is to evade police or other criminals, or to hide guns, drugs or money,” said Solicitor General Rich Coleman.
“This law establishes significant penalties and will work to discourage gang activity and organized crime,” he said.
Those penalties include fines of up to $10,000 and as many as six months in jail.
People with what authorities deem a “reasonable need” to drive armoured cars have until May 1 to apply for an exemption permit and get a criminal record check.
RCMP Supt. Tonia Enger, president of the B.C. Association of Chiefs of Police, said gang members have “no right to hide behind armour” or conceal tools that help them carry out their illegal activities.
“(This) is one more tool to help us keep the public safe,” Enger said.

significant penalties + fines of up to $10,000 and as many as six months in jail = Does not compute.

I don't feel hidden compartments or armour should be illegal whatsoever.

So putting a "tobacco" pipe under my ash tray and reinforcing my car to better help in a car crash can be illegal... look government, how about putting up cash rewards and using the media to catch the criminals rather then impose more laws for living in this land.

What a fucking joke
WHY impose restrictions on law abiding citizens as to what they can and can not do to their own personal vehicle, armoured, hidden compartments, dildo fucking shift knob or not? It should be none of the governments goddamn business what you do to your own car - they are DEFENSIVE not offensive modifications that in and of themselves can harm no one. And since when do people who breaks laws, give a shit about more laws and all the small print?
“The only reason … to add (these things) is to evade police or other criminals, or to hide guns, drugs or money,” - Last time I checked we are not in soviet russia. A hidden compartment does not automatically = criminality; why should any law abiding person who currently has an 'armored vehicle' even have to go through the hassle and waste their own time with applying for an exemption permit and submitting to a criminal record check? What the fuck is that
It's the same mess with the pos gun registry. It targets the wrong people. Outlaws do not give a fuck about the law.... Stop making retarded laws that only inconvenience law abiding citizens and WASTING OUR HARD EARNED TAX DOLLARS, you fucking bureaucratic asshats

The only reasons that this law is out is because the weapons that the police carries aren't enough to penetrate since they can't buy anything better with the money provided, government rather keep their big salaries than to buy cops better cars, and guess what? government wants more money for themselves.
Many of the laws are targetting wrong people, they should let people vote for new laws instead... Last time I checked, we're not supposed to be in a country where dictatorship is upon us...

Do you want ever officer to carry a bazooka?
There is no need of BP cars for law abiding citizens. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...ity-cars_x.htm

I don't like it when the gov't tells me what I can and cannot buy. Can't buy incandescent light bulbs, and can't buy armor of any kind. If this article was written 75km south of us, they would be up in arms about freedom.
Here? We assume the gov'ts got our back.

You CAN drive/operate an armoured vehicle with correct permits.
Also, imagine being in a head on collision against an armoured vehicle. instead of it crumpling from the impact like it is designed to, it obliterates your car and essentially steam rolls over it.

In the UK, you can even drive a tank/IFV/APC on the street, let alone modified armoured cars.

how does banning armoured cars make the public safer? if anything, there will be more shootings since the gangsters will try shoot each other in their cars knowing they are not bullet proof... all these new laws they are putting in place to keep the public "safe" are just bullshit scare tactic so they can tax the population

How many of you were planning on bullet proofing your cars? None, that's right you are all upset over something that doesn't have any effect on your day to day life.
The guy who said something about mistaken identity may have something there but all you need to do is not buy ugly Crome spinners and stay away from caddies and you will be fine. The window tint in the front I agree with, how is a cop pulling you over for a traffic violation know you aren't pointing a gun at him? In my experience when you are not driving a modified car and you are following the rules cops aren't jerks to you. If you hang out in a crowd that is drawing attention maybe it is time to think about changing crowds.
All in all this doesn't affect 99% of us so why the hate? Don't give me the "ooo our freedoms!" crap Posted via RS Mobile |

Here? We assume the gov'ts got our back. | I understand your sentiments completely and though I do agree to a point... but the poor wording of your opening kind of makes your sentiment sound silly at first.
Regardless, the law doesn't bother me. I'm fine with or without the anti-bp.
