Indoor Motion detector lighting

I want to replace the hallway/stairwell lights in my house to be activated with a motion detector, mostly for convenience since I figure that motion sensing in other rooms might not make as much sense.

Does any one have suggestions on what kind of unit to use? I guess I'd be looking for something that turns on the light IF there's motion and IF it's dark enough to need a light.

Am I asking for too much? Should I just stick with normal lights like everyone else?
