Guess I shoulda mentioned that haha. Rogers LTE is in testing in Toronto.

It should be locked. But the unlock app works fine. It's just finicky from what I heard.

They call their current UMTS network 4G for some reason, and claim that it is 42 Mbps (but then say "The average expected speed is 7-14Mbps" and that is a direct quote).
Anyone on the Telus/Bell networks able to get 7 Mbps, let alone 14, let alone 42? How about 2 mbps, if that? Let's see some speedtest figures |

i actually ran speedtest on the demo phone. hit like 1 Mbps lol
so i ran the unlock software that was supposed to generate an unlock code for me, however it said code could not be found.
normally you restart the phone and enter the code, thus unlocking the phone. i did nothing of the sort.
i just decided to slip in my Rogers sim and it was already unlocked.

more interested in the "power users" who twitter/facebook/email OFTEN... | I had GPS on, google navigation on for 40minutes, twitter and gmail on constant update, downloaded a bunch of apps, browsed a few website and what not, constantly using it to drain the battery right out of the box with 50% to 10% in 4 hours.

Haven't tested my SGS2 yet. Will do it later since reception is shitty at work.
When I had my SGS speedtest gave me average speeds of ~4 Mbps IIRC. Bell's network has always been fast and reliable IME.
My friend on Rogers gets ~1-2 according to him.

quick review of sorts:
nice fit and finish.
back cover is a thin SHEET of plastic. completely flat.
phone is thinner than iphone and feels super light. rounded and comfortable to hold
very fast boot up and does well everything really fast.
screen has bluish tint when viewed from angles
place for a phone strap if needed.
Micro SD is in back panel, must remove battery to access.
sound quality is not as nice as iPhone 4, both speaker and via headphones.
screen is nice and responsive and is MONSTEROUSLY big. the iP4 looks so small after using the GS2
transferring files via (Kies) USB is PAINFULLY SLOW.
built in FM radio only works when earphones are plugged in. cannot use speakerphone without headphones plugged in. weird.
once i get the hang of the OS im sure this will send my iPhone 4 into storage.
question does the Bell version built in GPS app require data?

The reason you're getting the error is because you're not connected to the Bell network therefore it'll refuse to activate or download the maps due to failed verification.
Get something like copilot or navigon or something and that will work fine.
