How long have you owned a car???

Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new – as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year…..at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you’d like to see it. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed, and is in perfect condition. (82 years)

Thanks Gene

82 years is a long ass time, i dun even know how he can even find parts for the car if something even wrong or if anyone can help him maintain it
(hope its not a repost as i did do a search)

wow that's awesome! wonder how much a car like that fetches at auction? cool that he donated it

the owner died in 2005

here's another article http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...ter_still.html

and here is the Springfield Museum page dedicated to the owner http://www.springfieldmuseums.org/ne...t_entrepreneur (he also gave the museum $1million to buy a new building)

Quote:
Swift, who died in October 2005 at the age of 102, was a legend among Rolls-Royce collectors for owning his green Phantom I, S273 FP Rolls longer than anyone in the world had ever owned an individual Rolls-Royce. In recognition of that fact, Rolls-Royce Motors presented him with a crystal Spirit of Ecstasy award at the Rolls-Royce Annual Meeting in 1994.

^

out of all the things he could've wrote on his will, he mentioned about this...

I was thinking that maybe it's one of his close family members who donated his car under his name

Probably just under a million if you account inflation. But don't count on my math cause that's just a guess.

well there's auction listings showing 160k all the way to 720k for a 1929 Phantom 1

and if you guys read the links he actually was introduced to the museum heads before his death and he later approached them wanting them to take care of his car when he was gone and he wanted them to extend their museum to include an automotive/etc wing to which he said he would buy them a new building to accommodate this addition; the museum heads later approached him with a site they wanted to purchase and he paid for it (1million$)
