Wow, what rock have you been living under all weekend? This came and went Saturday morning... was all over the news and Facebook Friday night. Probably takes up the first few pages of this thread, too.

Title reads: "Fukushima Daiichi (that means number 1) plant reactor #2 fuel rod complete exposure possibility.
Fukushima Daiichi plant reactor #2 fuel rods have completely emerged from water, the system is in empty status.
I wonder who hasn't been following the news...
The City of Destruction PS3 game (the one Renn.Sport posted, which actually went on sale 1 day before the quake of an after-quake apocalyptic RPG) stopped sales today due to "unforeseeable reasons"
Reactor #3 steam explosion
I don't want to ask about anything any more on RS because every time I ask a legit question I get attacked. Here how about I put out information for you instead?

I'm still amazed at how patient and law-abiding the Japanese are. In spite of all this chaos, they still line up to get into groceries or line up to fill up their cars. They don't loot, rob, or hog everything in the stores. Even the store owners do not jack up the price for water bottles, even though people will pay a lot more.
Compare this to hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Massive amounts of looting, and even high rates of homicide. Compare this with Haiti or China in their recent earthquakes as well.
hmmmm how are they going to stop the remaining plants from exploding in a cloud of steam?
Well according to the articles you quoted, only three of six reactors were online anyway, and two have already had explosions. These were hydrogen explosions, BTW, not steam (although they did release existing steam buildup).

Keep doing something that didn't work doesn't mean it'll eventually work...
And what is this even referring to?
Just because you googled articles to make yourself look smart, doesn't mean you actually understand what's happening.

So far all the explosions (to my knowledge) have been between the reactor vessel and the cement building housing the reactor vessel, cause by a venting of pressure from the reactor vessel. I believe the heat and pressure are causing the water vapor to disassociate into their components (hydrogen and oxygen). And the resulting explosion was the ignition of the built up hydrogen gas. And so far none of the reactor vessels have been damaged. Posted via RS Mobile

Would it be offensive to point out the near-complete absence of blacks in Japan?
Seriously, though... it IS a very different culture. I remember an interview from years ago, a metal band playing in Japan, saying how different the crowds were there - where fans in most of the rest of the world are bouncing off the walls most of the show, in Japan they'd just sit there quietly, politely, watching the show... the singer said he'd just walk up to mic and say, "Go nuts!" and they would... for about a minute, and then settle right down again.

They describe it pretty well in the article I linked earlier:
Quote:
The explosion took place outside of the third containment (our “last line of defense”), and the reactor building. Remember that the reactor building has no function in keeping the radioactivity contained. It is not entirely clear yet what has happened, but this is the likely scenario: The operators decided to vent the steam from the pressure vessel not directly into the environment, but into the space between the third containment and the reactor building (to give the radioactivity in the steam more time to subside). The problem is that at the high temperatures that the core had reached at this stage, water molecules can “disassociate” into oxygen and hydrogen – an explosive mixture. And it did explode, outside the third containment, damaging the reactor building around. It was that sort of explosion, but inside the pressure vessel (because it was badly designed and not managed properly by the operators) that lead to the explosion of Chernobyl. This was never a risk at Fukushima. The problem of hydrogen-oxygen formation is one of the biggies when you design a power plant (if you are not Soviet, that is), so the reactor is build and operated in a way it cannot happen inside the containment. It happened outside, which was not intended but a possible scenario and OK, because it did not pose a risk for the containment.

The sound of a blast was heard Tuesday morning at the troubled No. 2 reactor of the quake-hit Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, the government said.
The incident occurred at 6:10 a.m. and is feared to have damaged the reactor's pressure-suppression system, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said, citing a report from the plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Co.
pardon my lack of knowledge on this situation, but been trying to find out if the entire city of sendai, aomori and fukushima is completely in ruins, or just the areas off the coast?
