hmmmm how are they going to stop the remaining plants from exploding in a cloud of steam? Keep doing something that didn't work doesn't mean it'll eventually work...

has all the tsunami risk died down?
have any more been created due to the aftershocks?
has most of the water resided back to the ocean? (i'd assume alot of underground areas are flooded, but street level etc)

A tsunami, in this case, is caused by a massive movement of the earth's crust. An earthquake is caused when "stuck" sections of crust break loose; aftershocks are generally caused by the "settling" of the crust pieces afterward. Without that big movement, a tsunami would be highly unlikely.
Saw a guy on the news give a really good depiction of what happens in this type of quake: hold your hand up in front of you, flat, thumb toward your face, fingers curving down a bit - this would be the Pacific plate. Now place your other hand, flat, thumb toward your face, with those fingers curved down and meeting the knuckles on the first hand - this is the continental plate.
Now move the first hand toward the second - see how the fingers of the second hand are bent down. This is what's happening to the plates under Japan... and under our own coast.
Imagine the second hand is building pressure, now, to the point that your fingers break loose from the first hand and snap upward - this is what happened off Japan. That upward-snapping motion is what created the tsunami. It's like being in the pool and pushing the water with the flat of your hand, creating a wave.

Are you fucking kidding? Turn on the TV. Go to CNN. Better yet, go to CNN.com. Took five seconds to find this: http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapc...ex.html?hpt=T1

Did some research on the Tsunami and apparently it Hit Hawaii and California...Heres the article. http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/ts...-limited-91182 Quote:
A tsunami emanating from the massive earthquake that hit Japan on Friday sent seven-foot waves into the Hawaiian islands, but appeared to have caused no major damage in Hawaii or along the West Coast.
Peter Carlisle, the mayor of Honolulu, said Friday that the threat had subsided substantially and that coastal highways had reopened on the island of Oahu. He said residents who had evacuated were now free to return home, though they should remain off beaches for now.

Good it didn't blow across the ocean but the main question was still "is it official that there was a meltdown?"
and watch the news today. Plant 1 reactor 2 has the cooling system completely failed and now the reactor fuel is entirely exposed http://www.nikkei.com/news/headline/...E3E2E2E2E2E2E2
At the time of the quake 3 of the 6 reactors were running. It was established that Japanese government decided to ditch the plant's reactor #1 and #3 by pumping sea water into the cooling system, lowering the temperature while letting all steel parts rust to hell. Yet reactor #1 still underwent partial meltdown. #2 reactor cooling system went out in a puff of steam already today, it's all over the newspaper.
So why is it offensive to you, or whoever for that matter, to ask if they found a new solution to the continuous overheating problem at the plants?
From what the news has gathered, the 1st coolant pump failed from the cut in electricity, then the backup diesel pumps were basically blown away by the tsunami, so there's practically no pump available other than the battery cars that brought the electric pumps back on temporarily.
It's like having your waterpump fail on a running car... The cooling system pressure eventually erupts the system. But they have not yet announced if they are attacking the problem in a different manner right now...

^That is true.
Here is some good news about that though:
-#
2124: Work resumed early on Tuesday morning to pump sea water into reactor 2 at Fukushima Daiichi to prevent its fuel rods inside from overheating. As of 0300 local time on Tuesday, pressure inside the reactor container had dropped and it was believed seawater had been pumped in succesfully, Tepco said, according to the Kyodo news agency. However, Tepco admitted that it had not yet been able to confirm that water levels inside the reactor had risen. The fuel rods were fully exposed at 2300 local time on Monday.
Sorry about my last post, I just saw a lot of Facebook updates from people saying how something blew up or it's melting and since CNN doesn't really update all that much I figured I would ask here.
