Internet Explorer 9

Has anyone upgraded? I loved it for a second, then realized it sucks. Why?
- No spell check! Still! FFS Microsoft, add it by default!
- I cannot right click images and get the URL like I could in FF, makes posting images a PITA.
- Some sites are super fast, others are ridiculously slow. Something about compatibility. Blogspot/blogger is the slowest, and unfortunately many of the blogs I like use Blogspot.

Anyone have any tips to make IE9 better? I want a spell checker, yet the one in the add-ons sucked. I want something that will underline misspelled words, this only seems to spell check if I ask it to.

IE will never be the main browser, but IE9 is a nice upgrade from IE8

FF + chrome are still my main browsers

Working good for me so far on my top sites. Never needed spell check, so never noticed it missing. Haven't tried right clicking images, but will now that you mentioned it.

Only thing that pissed me off so far was having only 5 sites show up when you drop down the address bar. There's a way to fix it, but forgot how. I'll post up when I'm on my home PC.

Also trying to see how to increase the number of popular sites that display when you click to open a new tab. I'd also like to make the icons for popular sites larger but haven't found settings for that yet.

Why do you use both FF and Chrome? Why not just stick with one?

Exactly this. I'm starting to switch back to Firefox as just my main browser because of 4.0.

FF sucks ass lately. Ever since they switched to a DB to store information the performance and reliability advantage FF had is completely gone. I've completely uninstalled FF, gutted all the add-ons, reinstalled and still it sucks.

I even tried the FF4 beta, and it hangs, even worse.

FF4 is still in RC - it might be different after the full version is released.

Can't fault it if it's still in Beta.

I still prefer Firefox - because it's the only browser that has the plugin that allows me to scroll through the tabs with my mouse wheel. Once I got used to it, I can't not use it - it's so easy to use!!

I love chrome for its speeeeeddddd and relatively light application footprint

I love firefox for its utility with its extensions etc.

Why microsoft didn't corner the market way sooner than these two is a mystery. I guess being on top can breed lack of innovation.

So yesterday I finally broke down and hated IE9 so much I went on a hunt for everything Firefox and deleted/uninstalled it. Installed a fresh 3.6.15, imported cookies/bookmarks, and so far much better reliability. I was having problems with many tabs (I open 10+ tabs regularly when searching for development documentation) and it seems resolved.

IMO, spellcheck is a crutch. Learn to proof read. There's no spellcheck IRL.

No spellcheck IRL?

You still write things with a pen?

Since college i haven't written more than a sentence at a time on paper.

I'm out of fails for today, otherwise: fail.

Spell check not only makes proofreading faster and easier, it is great for 1-click word lookups when I don't know how to spell it.

Used Chrome for 2 years, then switched to IE9 for 2 weeks, it's not that user-friendly than it was advertised. And I can feel it's just a chrome / firefox copycat, but did a really bad job copying.

I hate the context menu, no image URL copying, no spell check, and fucking-difficult-to-read menu bar.

Opera is the fastest browser out there - well, it was, but not sure if it still is with all the new browsers out.

BUT - I found it has the least compatibility with webpages - there are the highest number of webpages that display incorrectly with Opera.

I haven't had any problems with IE9. I also use the do not track options to block site from passing my cookies across the web .
