Toyota Matrix 2011 hi guys i just wanted your thought on the 2011 matrix it has the new star system, but what im interested in, is the awd. i was told that the awd system is not full time. the car is in fwd at all times, but awd kicks in when it senses the front tires losing grip. is this true? if you have one, is it any good in snow and slush? would you guys even get the awd model, or should i just get an impreza? thank you very much for reading and responding! |
yeah, it uses an electromagnetic coupling in the back end and when the front wheels are being propelled faster than the rear wheels, the coupling transfers power to the rear wheels... sorta like an AC clutch... not on when it doesn't need to be... keeps fuel economy up this way... they also put a clutch onto the alternator to reduce drag on the engine and belt when it's not required... |
