| What would you have done?
I was at an intersection when this blind guy with a walking stick that he waves in front of him crosses the street. I didn't notice him coming closer and closer and he whacks my bumper with the stick. He then stops and then continues crossing. I was not sticking out or anything like that.
I was kind of shocked that that could even happen but I didn't do anything partly because I know that he's blind and its not totally his fault. And also because my front bumper is old anyway and the bottom looks sand blasted because or rocks and its lowness. Blind guy left a tiny nick in the bumper that I just touched up.
(EDIT: not going to do this anymore because I know now that its wrong) Next time I see one of those people crossing the street I'll keep and eye on them and if they get close to my car I'm gonna honk my horn like there's no tomorrow. So keep an eye out for them.

How would you stop a blind person from hitting your car with their stick? Maybe I won't honk forever but just one or two times to get his attention.

I do that's why I didn't do anything and just let him be.
And now I'm wondering what to do in case it happens again. Anything wrong with that?

How often does a blind person walk by your car and hit your bumper with their stick? How come you dont post about rocks hitting your bumper when that happens a significant amount?
How about next time it happens, if it ever does again, you get out of your vehicle and check the damage and then proceed on with your life when you find absolutly no damage?

I would be greatful I have my sight and not let the small things get to me. It would be no different if a little kid accidently hit my truck with a ball, shit happens.
Now if some perfectly able adult is an idiot and smashes their door into mine in a parking lot I might have something to say about that, different situation.

So you're saying just take the hit because the guy is handicapped? Instead of somehow coming up with a way to avoid it?
And what's this about no damage? He actually gouged off a piece of my bumper which I also am willing to let go because the overall condition of the bumper isn't that great. My car isn't too expensive but what if he's walking towards some guy's Ferrari, what do you think the owner would do when he sees the blind guy coming close? Just take the hit?
I mean, I know he's blind so its not his fault - I stated that in my first post.

And that's the point of this thread. What can I do if this ever happens again. Its not some anti blind person thread like YoungGunner thinks.

I am not mad about it (because I know he's blind - its in my post) nor am I complaining (because my bumper isn't in good shape - also in my post). Before you get on your high horse please try to understand what's been posted.
I just want to know what to do if it happens again. Maybe honking is not such a great idea but that's exactly why I asked the question. Now I know not to honk but then what would you do?

You're luck you didn't run into him while you were on foot. A buddy of mine took a walking stick to the face when he ran into an old blind guy because he was texting. It was hilarious, to say the least.

What part of this do you guys not understand?! I just want to know how to avoid a situation like this next time. What part of that is beyond comprehension?

I dont think you are anti-blind. I just think that as more priviliged individuals in the society, we can at least be able to accept things like that. If I drove a Ferarri, I am sure I'll be able to take the time and use my resources to make repaires done by a blind man's walking stick.
I know my anaglogy might not be perfect, but the fact remains that this is a rare event and extending the courtesy of not honking would be nice. V Rossi, if you think this event was not inevitable, would you care to say what you could of done to prevent it from happening? Id think that as he was crossing the road, it would be hard to communicate to a blind man in a very effective manner that would prevent him from hitting your bumper.
I understand that it sucks getting your car damaged regardless of what condition if would be in, but it is just one of those unfortunate events and should just be taken as a little bump in the road of life

If they werent blind and say some bitch hit my car with her shopping cart at the mall id say something. If their blind oh well shit happens not gonna start anything..

Accidents happen, not like he was doing it on purpose.
I wouldn't honk the horn, it might scare the shit out of the person causing the person to be in harms way.
Possibly give yourself more space between the cross walk and your car?

Yes, I get it and I won't honk at them if it happens again.
Still no one has any ideas on how to avoid this? Is then consensus then to just take the hit?

It's your responsibility to keep your eye on the road, and since the pedestrian was occupying the road, it would naturally be your responsibility to see him coming and act in accordance. Example being: rolling down your window and politely saying "Hey watch out, you're about to hit my car".
You should always keep your eye on your surroundings even at a complete stop so stop blaming a disabled person and have some respect for them like others have said.
