Bell Labs (at&t conceived of cellular networks in the '40s didn't have the tech for it until the '60s
(ended up developing AMPS the FCC didn't sign off on it until the 80s)
and Motorola and Bell Labs (AT&T) were racing to create the first Handheld cell phone
Cooper got to it first and the first call he made was to Joel Engel (man behind BellLabs)
It's like the people who invented YouTube, broadband, the mp3, or Windows (not counting 3.11). How did we even live 20 years ago?? Exciting times indeed.
