Not eating breakfast. Hi RS, Recently I haven't been eating breakfast (or I eat something super light like some fruit or something ). Is there something wrong with me? My body just doesn't feel good if I eat a full on breakfast, etc. Any thoughts? Posted via RS Mobile |
I haven't eaten a breakfast in quite some time and I feel the effects. I feel a bit sluggish through the morning until lunch, and my mind feels much slower to react. What a healthy breakfast does: -Helps concentration and problem solving throughout the day -Provides you with energy Fruits in the morning is always a great idea. Breakfast isn't supposed to be a full fledged meal. Just a small jump start for your day. Posted via RS Mobile |
As above, eating breakfast will give you energy required for focus/work, but if you don't feel those effects, it's not a big deal to not eat breakfast as long as you are not overly snacking throughout the day due to hunger or end up eating more total calories through the day to compensate. The 'myth' of eating breakfast reduces fat gain/obesity, etc. is because most people who skip lunch end up grabbing snacks before lunch, or eating huge lunches to satiate their hunger. |
Depends what you too as well. I get really physical at work so I need to fill myself up to keep my energy up. At school I eat less because I just sit in a desk all day Posted via RS Mobile |
No, you're fine. Anyone who says you NEED to eat breakfast is an idiot. First of all, your body doesn't care whether you eat one meal a day or 6. Metabolism-wise, it's the same. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9155494 Quote:

The hunger pangs you feel are a combination of: - Your body being conditioned to release ghrelin at a certain time (i.e. you're conditioned to eat at a certain time. If you don't, then your body will adapt) - You mistaking thirst for hunger. |
^what about eating for dieting?? |
Diet wise eating less frequently is actually effective in losing fat while still maintaining muscle mass for those who are already fairly fit (10-15% BF) but need to lose that extra fat, through intermittent fasting plans such as LeanGains and Lyle MacDonald's Ultimate Diet 2.0. It can be seen as more inefficient compared to full-out bulking or full out cutting, but it avoids the negatives of both (gaining fat/getting a gut while bulking or losing strength/muscle mass while cutting). Basically Intermittent Fasting is better for blood-glucose levels, as well it utilizes calories more effectively. I have been on the Leangains schedule of 16hr fasting 8hr feeding (eating between 1pm and 9pm), and I've definitely noticed a less bloaty-looking gut and more ab definition. really??? i find that if you make your portions smaller, cut out refined sugars + grains, and eat about every 3 hours that it works and wouldnt it be better than fasting?? |
Different schools of thought, but the LeanGains stance on frequent eating vs fasting is as follows: Quote:

basically what dafonz mentioned unless this is related to physical training, then it is a whole different picture. |
Read the articles i've posted, intermittent fasting can also be effective in cutting body fat while maintaining muscle in resistance training, and is often used by fairly fit people to get down to single digit body fat. Posted via RS Mobile |
whos willing to be dafonz is in awesome shape and has a physically demanding job :troll:. im sure those studies are highly relevant if youre a 120 lb desk jockey. If you are physically active in any way, you are going to want to eat breakfast cause youll be super hungry if you dont, end of story. |
If you eat once a day your stomach can get bloated because of all the acids that is building up or so I learn in health class . Just eat a light breakfast , have something in your stomach , better than nothing . It will help you get over your day no matter the task . At first not eating breakfast and starting again will make you feel uncomfortable but it's temporary . As soon as you get into a daily routine of eating breakfast you will feel fine and might even feel energetic . |

Darn. Maybe you could show me a thing or two in the gym? |
BTW, here's a guy who skips breakfast (any of the clients on leangains are). http://www.leangains.com/2010/08/fas...ing-video.html Yah fuck, he sure looks like a 120lb desk jockey. You on the other hand, could probably stand to lose some weight you big tub of lard. Go eat some twinkies fatty |
Uh oh dafonz, you disagree with someone. That must mean you are making it up! Posted via RS Mobile |
I don't usually eat breakfast. Get up around 7:30am and won't eat till around 1pm to 2pm for lunch. I do have coffee in between though. Not very healthy though. |
I start off the day with a bowl of cereal, yogurt, and a grapefruit. |

i dunno about you but i play sports and workout, and when i wake up in the morning im starving. Somehow i think starving myself till lunchtime is not good for muscle developement and recovery. |

Also studies show fasted training (i.e. training on an empty stomach) can be more beneficial than training in a fed state: http://www.springerlink.com/content/w8712615714k8150/ In layman's terms: http://www.leangains.com/2009/12/fas...le-growth.html |
