macbook pro unibody repair

anyone know if you can replace the macbook pro unibody outer casing? i'm talking about the lower piece where all the ports etc are located. not the bottom cover. i'll probably go to apple store and see if it's replacable. my gf dropped the laptop and there's a huge dent on the bottom making the bottom piece can't close properly. -_-

Everything is replaceable on the mac. The parts are called the bottom case and top case. This part that you are looking for, I believe with include the keyboard and touch pad as well. It is rather expensive to replace. I managed to pick one off from ebay. I have an extra one at home right now but the track pad is damaged on it. If your track pad is working fine, then you might be able to just swap your trackpad into my top assembly and get the computer fixed for a fraction of the price. Just an idea.

Oh, man....that's gonna be expensive.... I was quoted about $700 parts + labour for that. The little button on the side that you press to check battery level broke and fell inside the casing, and a tech at Simply Confusing, err, Simply Computing gave me that quote, as they would have to replace the entire casing. I thought, "Fuck that!" and went home and was able to repair it myself with some bits of folded up paper.

Raw aluminum in ingot form costs about $1.15 USD per pound.....someone's making lots of money.

wow 700+? lol i saw a site that's an authorized apple repairer only cost about $299-349. and should i get it repair at apple? because it still under warranty so i'd prolly want to get it repair there just so i don't void my original warranty on it?

Like I've said, I've done one of these before...

Ebay is your best friend, Future Shop is not an OPTION and Simply Computing should be used for labor only, NOT parts.

ONE EXAMPLE - CHEAP!

In addition, the labor for this task will cost you only $80 at Simply Computing.

Macbooks are pretty easy to take apart.. Just DIY with parts purchased online.

The unibody Macbook Pros are easy to take apart. The previous ones are a real pain in the ass.

Thx for all the input. Got it fixed at apple store for $67. The guy was nice enough to charge me for the bottom piece only and claim the top piece thru warranty =]
