Blackberry Bold 9000 bad reception

*I did a search, got answers from 2007*

So, I just got a Blackberry Bold 9000 today. The reception was totally fine outside, at Lougheed mall and outside in general. However, as soon I step foot in my house, my reception goes to shit. Zero, or 1 bars, and has to search for networks constantly. Moving the phone 3 feet from my couch to my table gives it a bar. I never had this problem with my non-smartphone LG I used for the past 6 months.

I did some work on google, and apparently the problem might be with my sim card. I am currently on fido (no data plan on my phone yet), and I know they only support the 8520, but I don't know if that one has it's own special sim.

Any help is appreciated!

I'm using Fido . I have a BB 9000 and my phone is unlocked . I live in a 3 story house if that matters and the signal is fine . I live in White Rock - Surrey .

Did you buy it used? My 9000 and my sisters 9000 both got screwed up pretty bad after they were dropped a few times. Nothing really happened to the phone cosmetically but reception went to shit to the point where the phone did not function unless you held it perfectly perpendicular to the ground.

After I unlocked my 9000 I noticed the reception got crappier as well.

Purchase an unused sim card if you dont have one already and goto fido and ask them change them, it maybe the sim card. Also it may depend where you live, some areas just dont have that good reception, Capital hill in burnaby for an example has terrible reception.

@ jeedee-I'm with fido, so a piggyback off the Rogers network right?

@dhillon- That may be the case as I did buy it used and the phone looks like its in bad shape. Reception for me is great everywhere but my own house. 5 floors up deep inside SFU Surrey, or even in the AQ or lecture halls up at SFU Burnaby nowhere near a window I'm still picking up bars.

@spades- I'll probably try that if sim cards are cheap, how much do they usually go for? I don't think its the area, I'm right in the heart of surrey, where my other phones get full bars inside my own home.

Im not sure about now they used to cost 40 bucks from fido, but everyone that gets a new plan or buys a phone gets a new simcard so search craigslists or RS buy and sell people usually sell them for 10-15 bucks.

maybe your phones on 3g or 2g only, that might affect reception you can check on phone in network settings

it could be your sim card, but i was in the same situation and a new sim card did not help. i actually used a micro-sim in an adapter even.

i get one bar on Fido on a 9000, 9700, and an iphone4 in my place. ppl on wind or mobilicity actually get 3-4 bars in my place lol. I kept on thinking it was my phones but similarly ppl on the same phones on the same network experienced the same bad reception in my place. Switch it on EDGE, i got better reception at home this way. my 9700 actually dropped calls because it was constantly switching between edge and 3G.

exactly like how you described it, i get full bars outside, and even decent reception in places i would not expect to. everywhere except my house.

I don't have bad reception on my bold, sometimes it just goes to SOS/edge instead of 3G, but i just wait like 5seconds and it'll be all good again .
