| Insurance cost for 95 Integra (new driver)
yes..i know..another insurance post
just spent like nearly 2 hours looking at insurance related posts on the forum but noticed the cost varied quite a bit and just couldn't get the right answer. I know the obvious is go to a insurance place and get a quote.
==================================
just got my first car, 95' integra sedan (4dr)
- had my license (N) for just under a year, got it june 2010
- 20 yrs old
- no accidents
- planning on using the car as a pleasure driver
(question: are there like KM limits or how much you drive it? Cause from what I understand, if you register it as pleasure, the insurance is a little lower right?)
- plan on registering insurance under my name
thx in advance

If you register it as pleasure use the insurance papers will say "vehicle may not be used more than 6 calendar days a month"... that's what it says... but you'll be fine if you daily drive it.
and if you had your N since June you should have about 5% discount by now.

If you go to an autobroker they will tell you what it will cost to the penny. Take the guess work out of it.
BTW, don't fraud ICBC to save a couple bucks because it might burn you hardcore. If you insure for pleasure use and get in an accident on your way to work or school you may get fucked. If they find out you're using it more then you're suppose to because you have pleasure use on it they will void your insurance. I'd hate to be 20 years old and responsible for paying back tens of thousands of dollars to save a few bucks.
It's just like those parents insuring their kids cars in their names. They are just asking to get fucked screwed over.
EDIT: When I say (those parents) I'm talking about dumb ones like my own mother. Last year she did what I told her over and over not to do for my sister. I told her, I told my dad just like I'm telling you it was a horrible idea. Long story short my sister gets in a little fender bender, litterly no damage to my sisters vehicle not even a scratch. ICBC asks the question of my mom, why do you have this second vehicle and who drives it? They decide my sisters driving it (which she was) voids insurance. Expensive, $8000 lesson for my mom as ICBC paid injuries to the lady with no damage on her vehicle probably because they were voiding insurance and didn't give a fuck.
Samething will happen to you if they find you're driving more then you're suppose to be.

and if you had your N since June you should have about 5% discount by now. | This is actually only partially correct. I just changed mine over to pleasure use and what it says is Quote:
Pleasure
Generally speaking, these rate classes apply to vehicles used for typical day to day functions such as driving children to or from school or some kind of an event, driving to or from a shopping centre, driving while on vacation, or similar types of uses.
Limited commuting, business, delivery use Rate class 001
The vehicle is used for typical day to day uses as described above. In addition, the vehicle can be used for limited commuting/business/delivery use so long as the vehicle is not used more than six (6) days in a calendar month for these uses. If used as a delivery vehicle then the vehicle must weigh 5,000 kilograms gross vehicle weight (GVW) or less.
| Source: http://www.icbc.com/autoplan/costs/p...-classes#rate1
So for just day to day driving around you can use it every day of the month, but you can only use it to and from work/school 6 calendar days a month.
It was worth it for me since it dropped my annual cost $200

if you thought that the obvious answer was to ask the insurance broker, then why didn't you ask the insurance broker?
call them, get a quote, and ask them a few questions,

Samething will happen to you if they find you're driving more then you're suppose to be. | I insure both my vehicles and I let my mother drive my other one but she isn't resident here anymore so it can't be under her name. I guess I'm in a tough position in this scenario aint I...
Well guess I should probably call my insurance broker friend and ask him about it. Thanks for heads up.

Well guess I should probably call my insurance broker friend and ask him about it. Thanks for heads up. | If the cars are insured in your name and she drives the car only 49% of the time or less you're fine. I was talking about parents who insure their kids car in their name to save money.

I guess if they really want to hunt you down to see if you are within the 6 days alloted they can interview your co-workers/neighbours...stake out in front of your house for 24 hours. Do they even have that manpower? |

theres diff types
as other people have said, pleasure is 6 days of the calendar month used for school/work.
then theres a few other ones like school/work within 15km..or school/work beyond 15km. theres even school/work+transit (but you can only drive for 6 calendar days for school/work use)
so figure out which one is best for you, and just give an insurance office a call and they'll be glad to give you a quote. it'll only take like 2 minutes over the phone. just have your DL ready, and let them know the make of your car and what you'll be using the vehicle for. they'll be able to look up your discount for you.
you get a 5% discount up to 43% with additional options per year upon acquiring your license. first year is 0% of course. when i say acquire your license, i mean your L. (written exam).
i recommend liability of 2mil+.
these days, 1mil and under just doesnt cut it. dont cheap out on a few dollars..cuz it might end up wrecking your life, if you get yourself in a really bad situation. this goes especially since you are a newer driver.
oh and dont forget if you have an immobilizing anti theft device in your car, you can get a few dollars off your insurance. (its not much, honestly, but better than nothing)

ok. i don't care if you've looked at a bunch of threads on it, i'm tired of seeing these pop up...
want to know how much YOUR insurance will cost YOU? Go to an autoplan or private broker and get a quote...or give them a call. asking what other people pay is next to useless. they aren't necessarily in the same area as you, using the vehicle for the same purposes, etc. etc. i am locking the thread, next one that comes up gets points.
