Dent in drywall

So long story short, I made a dent in the drywall at my condo. I've already emailed the landlord and let her know.

If she let me fix it myself, where should I start?

The dent size is about 5cmx13cm and 0.5cm deep.

Should I just go to HomeDepot and ask?

Thanks for the advice!

It's really easy. Get drywall putty and a scraper, Fill hole using said putty and scraper making sure to leave excess on the wall. Don't make it flat leave a slight bulge. Then sand down the area and paint over the patch. Hopefully your condo is new and the paint will be easy to match otherwise you will have an odd colored painted area that may look worse than the dented drywall.

Berz out.

what Berz said.

you could try the pink putty that dries on white, leave bulge and lightly sand it when it is dry with a fine grit sand block. Ask if the landlord have the extra paint when the condo was built (if it is a new condo)

but to save yourself misery, let the landlord deal with it because:

1. he/she may not be satisfied with the patch work
2. he/she may get all bitchy with bad paint match and ask you to paint the whole house.

I'd repair it myself and pretend you know nothing about it if ever asked..

Landlord can always insist on you paying someone for the repair.. which in turn can be 10 times the cost of you repairing it.

I would but the paint match is what worry me. I did some research and they says better to repaint the entire wall section cause the paint won't blend well. It's a special color, not the regular white wall paint.

I let her know anyways since she's the owner--I'd hate somebody damage my wall and not telling me. She'll probably deal with it.

If the paint isn't too old and is in a non-smoking room, the only trouble you would have colour matching is that the paint will absorb into the mud differently than onto a previous layer of paint. You'd have to do several coats.

The patch itself is easy. The larger area you mud the easier it is to blend when you sand. The paint matching is the biggest challenge for sure.

Or leave it alone since chances are you may have a few more throughout your stay there.

Fix them all at once later on down the road.

I won't even mentioned it and just go ahead fix it ...

like everyone else said, putty then sand, matching the colour is probably the hardest since so many different shades ...

my suggestion is cut a little chip of the colour with you when shopping for paint .. I beleive Home depot can scan the colour and match it ... not too sure about General Paint and Sherwin Walliams ...

A landlord can't refuse an adequate repair.

If you fix it PROPERLY, and sand it smooth and paint it with primer, then paint, they can't then say I need to have a company come and fix it.

Some will try.

I don't even think they can complain about the paint not being a perfect match, because it would fall under normal wear and tear. The rest of the wall is faded and so on, that's not your fault, its just the way paint is.
