Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find an article or review which talks a lot about the 6AT tranny, with facts and/or opinion. Have you come across one?
Yes, i owned one and so far put 1650km on it. 3rd gear in AT have the torque dip, the MT have it too i believe but i don't know if its as obvious. If you ever driven an IS-F you will feel right at home, (the tranny is the same as the IS-F with 2 less gear) the shifts are fast and precise but a little jerky depending on throttle position.
Downshift are well executed but like the MCT in the C63 sometimes it will not let you go ahead with a downshift it rev near the red line. The IS-F/FR-S shifts feel faster than merc's MCT and bit more direct, but nowhere near bmw's M-DCT
Its a good transmission but I still feel it suits the IS-F more than the FR-S.
I went so completely sideways on it at the only sweeper on the course. Did that twice and here's my drifting impression:
Steering is excellent it's a bit heavier than even the Yaris power steering I have on my AE86....but the steering angle is good when you need it and the response is positive.
Only car I have driven in recent years where you feel so at one with it you forgot you are in a car in a real world environment, you are overwhelmed by the G-forces, the feed back from the butt of the rear tires screaming for mercy and the ear-to-ear grin the Open Road staff share with you in the middle of the drift. Suddenly the cheap plastics and lack of power and a clutch pedal didn't matter at all. It's a refreshing change to the increasingly game-like driving dynamics of modern cars.
Can't wait until it gets a tad more powerful in future iterations.

I got there just after 5pm and was one of the last to drive... and even got two laps in. The wind had seriously picked up right around that time, and the cones were literally being blown away. I didn't know to request to turn TC off, so it kicked in on me several times on my second lap.

Next time we'll get you in earlier with better weather!
I was at the test drive, and I didn't know there were 2 hair pins before the finish :| Did you guys changed the course or did everyone just missed that? I was there between 2-3pm.
Handling was really nice. I love how the steering wheel was heavy, and the car stayed flat when cornering. However, couldn't really test the power of the car, since the straightaway was too short.
The response from this event was great.
I hope to organize a full sized track this year so you can really push the limits of this car
- Keep u all posted!

Course was exactly the same throughout the day.
I put those to hairpins in to slow everyone down before pitlane - just to be safe !
I took this thing for a testdrive ( toyota version ), im a bmw M guy and let me just say.... The ha dking onthis thing is amazing, the ride is super harsh. It feels nice to drive, interior dash is lackIng.. Everything, very cheap materials, you can hear the belts turning in the enin compartment from the driver cabin. Start from 0 is quie nice but after it gets to 6000 rpm it looses a lot o that torque.
Another thig i liked was the transmission, the automatic felt like a dual clutch. Overall nice car but for its price i'd rather a 2 year old mercedes or bmw that can outperform it in every way possible.
Name one 2 year old BMW for $26k that would out perform the FR-S in handling... I'll wait
rich
If you want to feel the road, a proper power steering assistance system, be able to pull the tail out, and cheap plastics, an E36 could be had for 4 grand.
Or if you want to drift through any corner, an E30 will do the trick for 2 grand.
This car is a novelty because people have forgotten what it feels like to drive an old-school rear-wheel drive car.

After reading some of your posts, I've come to the conclusion that you're a bloody idiot/troll. Oh, and I'm a P-car type of guy.. wtf is that even supposed to mean???
A 2 yr old BMW/Mercedes @ FRS's price = a high mileage 323i/C250. No they won't outperform the FRZ.. but enjoy your plastic (leatherette) seats and the extra hard dash (those base models don't come with the squishy materials that you love so much)..

The fact that he said 2 year old car and you named cars that are much much older means that this car isnt novelty beacause people have forgotten what it feels like to drive an old-school rear-wheel drive car and more like people haven't been able to buy a old school rwd car since auto makers have forgotten how much fun these cars actually are
note: I am bias as I bought the FRS

any e36 or e30 for those prices is going to be a pile of shit. I haven't seen a well sorted e30 for less than 8k locally, and its still a 20 year old car. Apples to oranges. I could have bought a 1k mk1 rabbit and had a fun manual ff hatchback but instead I spent 24k and bout a mk5 gti. Its not the same thing just because they share a few characteristics.
