i was trying to think of an affordable RWD coupe from japan within the last 10 years excluding roadsters

only rx-8 came to mind :concentrate:

pk_volt 10-30-2011 10:49 PM

lol, why oh why did they pollute such a beautiful design with a shitty brand, Scion.

They should've just kept it as TOYOTA!

Either that, or this whole "FT86" scheme is just a publicity stunt, possibly to bring Scion up to speed with other auto brands...

hk20000 10-30-2011 10:51 PM

^ not really a coupe it has 4 doors.

350z/370z is somewhat affordable? :p

in Japan, the tuning market is mostly about modding second hand cars anyways. the young folk who are really into cars can't really go and buy brand new cars for modding.

the interior looks like its got lots of room for aftermarket stuff.. factory din unit looks like its begging to be replaced and the space underneath.. looks like space for oil temp metres and such

something tells me that TRD will have a nice catalogue of parts for this engine. :)

Hmm interesting. I was wondering if they will get into the HP wars with the Genesis Coupe/370Z with a second trim that produced more power. But being 200hp means this will probably be below $30,000 which means I can afford it :)

gilly 10-31-2011 10:14 AM

crz has 4 seats?

hk20000 10-31-2011 10:28 AM

Bottom Left says "Customize grade" which means it's a version catered to people who are immediately gonna rice their cars out with aftermarket parts so it rolls off the factory with unpainted bumper, basic white paint and steelies. Possibly released for future competition builds.

If that grade makes it across the pond it'd be quite a media stir no? It's like a Lancer N1 base chassis but for Toyota.

BaoTurbo 10-31-2011 10:48 AM

The scion brand doesn't bother me much. Once I buy it, changes badges to Toyota. You can change frs to ae86 too if you want

Tegra_Devil 10-31-2011 12:49 PM

so i see so many people talking about a 4cyl turbo in this thread..............................but this is N/A.............why is a turbo coming up in conversation or am I totally missing something?

also, is this a new 2.0L suburu engine......or something out of a previous model?

cococly 10-31-2011 01:19 PM

BR-Z is going to be turbo, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a TRD turbo kit down the line. As for the engine itself, I'm not sure if it's a new one, but it is using Toyota's direct injection system.

No turbo version in development for the Toyota version

BR-Z is also no turbo.

The BRZ will make close to what the Scion is making which is maybe 230ish. Not 300, not without a turbo.

SpicyToFu 10-31-2011 09:01 PM

The real question is whether this would be as much fun to drive as my ae86

On one hand it has a boxer engine, but this new "toyota" seems to weigh more
