Gas Prices

Gas tonight hit $1.408/L. Damn, I can already see this is going to be one expensive summer. Just like in 2007 when gas went over $1.50/L.

What is your method to save gas money? Or will you just get anal raped by the rising gas prices? Filling up in the states? Ie at Point Roberts?

For me, I am really considering monthly bus passes for the summer......$81 for a one zone pass for a month is substantially less than one fill up for me. I assume so for many many many other out there too.

Only thing I really look forward to now is the UPass for BCIT! (and other colleges too)

One of the methods that I have been using to save fuel is have minimum engine warmup before setting off. Yes, it has its drawbacks, but then I don't go beyond 2500rpm before the engine has fully warmed up.

I still see people idling for 3-5mins, I wouldn't say this practice would help your fuel economy.

I turn off my car when I'm sitting in the timmy's line-up and wait until it's my turn to pull to the speaker to start it and pull forward, saves a couple minutes worth of idling.

Keep rpm under 3000rpm

Mythbuster said Right Turn only on your route, save gas than turn left.

Gas price goes up and down. It doesn't affect too much unless you make minimum pay and drive a SUV. My car costs extra $60-70 more a month than when it was at $1.1, people can live with it.

I'm more pissed that house rent has gone up to an unaffordable level, but salary stays pretty much the same.

$60 - $70 more a MONTH is still a lot of money... that's $720 - $840 a year.
For me, I just suck it up and pay the higher prices and don't complain. Nobody says I have to drive a non-economical car... that's my choice. You know what they say, you gotta pay to play. Plus I feel better when I pull up to the pump after a big SUV just drove away and see $150+ on their pump

Do I complain about the gas prices? Sure, but not that loudly.

A guy at work has a new F150 and his fill ups are wallet crushing. It's unreal. It's sad when my monthly gas bill for BOTH my cars, are what he pays for one and a half fill ups! And I'm using 91 for one car, 94 for the other.

I do wonder how close it will get to $2 a L

Read that the US is talking about some deal about oil sands and importing it from Canada. Maybe that will help us a little idk. But yea gas is hitting up pretty damn high and I only use the car to go out to places like with friends and I have to fill up about after a week. I also bus to school too now most of times if I can just to save that extra $5 or so going to to van from richmond and back

I stopped complaining when I started to play the same game as the investors that drive the oil prices up. Invest in the spring and sell sometime in September. Enough profit to cover the fuel bill for the year.

Can't afford it? don't drive. At least Translink is not increasing their monthly passes yet. Buses use gas too.

We shouldn't really complain. Taxi drivers and people who making their living on the road must be more hard hit than us "leisure" or "point A to point B" drivers.

Well, what can we do? It's not like we can go without gas. People still need the gas to drive, so even if it was $2/L, people will still have to pay for it.

There is no comparison there, you have to realize people can live without a car in HK and the major majority do because their public transit system actually works well and works with people.

Here we have piece of shit translink system where takes 45 min per bus and are always late which fucks people up all the time.

I don't live in Vancouver, but I do have friends who paid extra $350 for a basement this year. Food is much more expensive too

btw, gas price hits $16.5hkd ($2.1cdn?) per litre here. I might start taking star ferry to work to cut travel expense lol
