looks like aug 17th is the date everyones talking about. nothing official yet. rumoured initial release was supposed to be june 28. guy on CB that is a field tester for ATT said they received the phone mid may for what is usually a 45 day test and it failed bad enough to be sent back for fixing. now word is that RIM told telus/rogers/bell stores such as bestbuy there is a launch delay. so if the carriers receive the updated phone for testing mid june, you can expect testing to run to the beginning of august, with a mid august launch targetting back to school shopping.
now i wish i jumped on telus's $0 9780 on a 1 year contract promotion to blow out stock they ran for 48 hours back at the beginning of may when the bold touch was announced at BBW.

| 9790! Quote:
If you're seeing this post and thinking to yourself what the heck is a BlackBerry Bold 9790? you're not alone. We're kind of stumped by the existence of this one, though I'm thinking it's the device we have talked about previously that went by the codename Onyx III. With a look that's very similar to the BlackBerry Bold 9780, the 9790 shown in the photos (more pics below) apparently packs a lot of the next-generation stuff that we'll be seeing in the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, including:
8 GB internal memory
OS 7
QWERTY / QWERTZ Keyboard
Touch Screen
NFC
And apparently the device is very thin and very fast (making us think it has a pretty decent processor under the hood). While the device really looks like a refresh to the BlackBerry Bold 9700/9780 form factor, I can't help but think this is a prototype that will never see the light of day as it was usurped by dakota/montana (9900/9930). Back in June 2010, prior to the release of the Bold 9780, we talked on the CrackBerry blogs about Onyx II and Onyx III and that while the Onyx II (Bold 9780) would not feature a touchscreen, that the Onyx III in the same form factor would. So based on the information we had back then, it makes sense that we're seeing some visual proof of this device existing. Though it seems somewhere along the line RIM must have made the call to scrap the Onyx III form factor and make the next-generation BlackBerry Bold wider like the original 9900.
It makes for an interesting point though.... assuming all specs would be essentially equal, would you rather have a new BlackBerry Bold Touch in narrow form factor like the 9700/9780 or in the wider form factor like the 9000/9900/9930? Sound off in the comments!

BGR is the only site that has the rumor of being pushed back til September. I am still thinking it will be a late July release.

I got all excited and jumped on the android bandwagon a while ago. Its a decent phone over all. Nothing beats the blackberry's physical keyboard, battery life, and ability to get things done.
Can't wait for this to switch back. Once the bells and whistles of android wore off for me, i realized how much i missed my berry.

BBs are for grownups who need to get shit done. iphones are for kids who want a toy when they ride the bus or for in class.

IMO both Phones are great and has it's ups and downs. I have been using my 9700 for 2 years. I switched to an iphone4 because I got it for $100 and needed a phone bad.
So far I love the functionality of iPhone. The banking and other stuff is awesome. I did not load it with games lol
In fact I Don't even play games on it at all.
I do miss bbm, but I can live without it.
The only thing I hate about iPhone is the push email... Berry organizes emails easier
In the end I'm still going to get the 9900
I don't get why fanboys duke it out all the time lol Posted via RS Mobile |

I figure September.
I stopped waiting. Telus had a 72 hour sale on for a 9700 for 1 year term at $0. so I signed a 1 year contract. will buy it out after christmas and switch to the 9900/9930. that gives RIM a couple months to iron out the glitches. and theres an outside QNX might be out by early spring too so thats another option.
Pretty happy with the 9700, actually really happy. updated to latest os6 and everythings running smooth so far.
