I've been using one since Friday, and the two things I like about it most compared to the 9700 is the keyboard and the contour of the back.
Because the unit is wide like the 9000, the keyboard is wider, and besides having bigger keys, the feel is much nicer.
The contoured edges of the back make holding it more ergonomical. That, and the fact that it's thinner, helps to make it fit nicely in my back pocket.

Is it running os7 or is it still the same os with just new hardware? Moving from the torch to this hopefully but if they don't have a new OS I'm going to probably try out the htc evo 3d or samsung gs2. Rim needs some innovative.
Oh and any word on whether it can run android apps or not? Posted via RS Mobile |

Yeah, it's running OS 7.0.0.100 Bundle 848.
I'm not exactly a BlackBerry power user, so I wouldn't be able to tell you all the differences between OS7 and OS6, but just from casually using it, I don't notice anything too obvious.

It's a evaluation unit that RIM sent to our company... I swiped it from the developers to use for myself and play with it.
I also have the Torch 2 on my desk right now.

The shape seems pretty much the same as the Torch 1, except it's a metallic gray colour. No metal finish on it, just plastic.

I love berries, probably will keep it unless RIM decides to give BBM to other platforms.
Cant stand using a phone without physical qwerty keyboard and bbm

hahaha the new bold's spec isn't even good compared to the standards of smartphones! I am really losing hope to RIM as I am moving to an android or iphone5 next year to replace my torch.

honestly i think if RIM wanted to keep up with the standards of phones like HTC EVO 3D or sensation , they could but really do you need that much power to operate a phone like the BOLD 2? My bold 2 never lags and i have over 60000 texts messages with my wifey and it still is fine.
But it doesn't hurt to have the power of the EVO 3D or SGSII

^ if it's a true multitasker then it'll have more power, i remember when iPhones couldn't multitask, that was RIM's only selling point, now almost anything can multi task.

its hardware is pretty on par with all current smartphones, actually faster than more than a few of them.
again, the 'shiny' specs (shit to run entertainment) arent the focal point specs for berries. and BB isnt the company thats going to put a 14mp camera in a phone because apple says they are doing 8mp.

The battery life on this thing sucks! I don't know if it's just this pre-production unit, but it does not last me more than 24 hours. My 9700 can usually last me at least two days.

Well, no surprise that it's more snappy than the old ones with the faster processor... haven't noticed any lag when viewing pictures on BBM.
