I got TONS of spankings when I was younger. It works and gets the job done. Theres a line between abuse and discipline. Most of you don't seem to understand the concept..
what your parents did to you is your own business. who are we as humans have any say as to how or if animals get disciplined, especially if it is for profit and entertainment.
this is the exact mentality the US has with regards to other nations around the world, that has gotten them to be enemy no. 1. and what happened , 911. hope someone goes 911 on some of your heartless asses.
In that sense of argument, that means someone like hal0g0dv2 can come over and beat you up and burn your house down just because he is stronger than you?
Sorry hal0g0dv2 had to use you there.
Well, yeah... rules of nature but generally there's something the others want, not just because they're stronger.

there is also a difference between farms that supply for local markets/meatshops and ones that supply stuff for fast food chains where the demands are insane.
Really? Since you know so much about farming, then why don't you explain the differences to me.

Never said that. If I work in an industry and have never seen something happen, that doesn't mean it never happens. However, when some nutjob finds cases in that industry and then tries to promote those cases as "standard procedure" then I'm going to call them on it.

So you stand up for animal rights and then turn around and wish physical harm on another person? Oh the irony.
on the hypocrisy of eating meat:
"I think using animals for food is an ethical thing to do, but we've got to do it right. We've got to give those animals a decent life and we've got to give them a painless death. We owe the animal respect."
—Temple Grandin
I recently saw HBO's Temple Grandin with Claire Danes. It was a great movie that delved into her autism, and how she developed a humane design for the treatment of cattle in processing plants.
LOL animal lovers. i laugh at your weakness. 'compassion' is subjective. noobs. if someone gave me a million dollars to torture an animal in the most cruel way i would. many of you guys would too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I am sure that if someone paid a stranger enough money, they would throatfuck your mom until she had her last breath....

well, then i do feel sorry for you getting hit on. my parents reasoned with me and that worked and got the job done too.
there are probably better methods to train and educate the elephants than using hooks.
If animals don't want to get eaten they should evolve into something that doesn't taste so damn good.
They're only good if you process them.. ie cook them. I've never met anyone who liked to rip meat off dead animals with their teeth like real carnivores.
Everyone is a hypocrit. Unless you live in the forest, on 1x1 pad, sleeping on petemoss and eating huckleberries and pinecones through out your whole life then your a hypocrit.
If you wear nike/addidas have a iphone you support slavery
If you drive a car you support the destruction of the environment
If you smoke, drink, eat mcdonals then you support the destruction of yourself.
You must know, that there are so many FUCKING BAD THINGS in this world its hard not to support any of it. So I made this thread to bring attention to the fact that animals were severley mis-treated in the making of this movie and you can choose to not support by not seeing.
First of all, I do support sweat shops, I just don't support their wage.
Second, I fully support so-called 'destruction of the environment' by driving my car. 100%
Further elaboration of my point of view:
Third absolutely, someone has the right to eat junk food knowing that it is bad for them.
What I do not care for are hypocrits telling me how to be compassionate to a certain species of animal, only to turn a blind eye to the slaughter of other animals by the millions.
I'm tired of hearing shit like "OMG save the dolphins, you MUST watch the COVE!", when they refuse to do anything about the malpractice of things back here at home, then chomp down on a steak.
I basically don't really care for the contents of the video. You're no different than the hordes of people preaching to watch "The Cove".
That being said, unless you're a vegan or some sort of compassionate person who loves ALL animals, then I redact my post.
That being said, it appears that clip is from 2005, and during the MAKING of the movie, no animals were harmed.
Bosses at 20th Century Fox have now addressed the controversy, assuring movie-goers that Tai was not mistreated on the Water For Elephants set.
A statement from the studio reads: "Twentieth Century Fox feels strongly that we have taken every step to ensure that the film, while portraying the perception of animal abuse (often through digital effects), held in utmost importance the proper care and humane treatment of all animals involved in the production. Fox and the filmmakers behind Water for Elephants are disturbed and saddened by the video being circulated that purportedly shows the elephant Tai being mistreated several years ago. We are strongly opposed to violence against animals, humans or any creatures."
"Fox is compelled to point out that this video was not taken during the training for, or production of, our film, and neither Tai nor any other animal performer in the film was harmed in any way during the making of this film."
And I am sure that if someone paid a stranger enough money, they would throatfuck your mom until she had her last breath....
Did you say throatfuck someones mom? I'll do it pro bono.

Would you take it in the ass from a male elephant for a million dollars?
If they condone such practice, I will feel anything but pity for them when karma strikes them in the ass 10 fold. Simple as that.
There's no such thing as Karma - it's a scientific fact. It's something people made up so they can take some comfort in the hope that people who do "bad things" will somehow suffer themselves later on.

Why would I eat meat off a carcass if I have the intelligence to process it first?
^ you said they shouldn't have evolved to be so tasty.
In reality, they didn't evolve to be so tasty. You we have the intelligence to process the meat to make it tasty, ie, therefore it's normal. But it's not. Humans are not carnivorous at all, we don't have any carnivorous instincts what so ever. Btw, I'm not a vegetarian.
You could apply the same logic to this elephant abuse.. ie they shouldn't have evolved to be subjectable to this abuse so easily, and because we figured out how to control them with nails and electricity, therefore it's normal. Flawed logic.

I don't see how disciplining your kids or pet physically is same as the matter discussed here. In the case of the elephants, they are being inflicted physical pain and mental damage for the profit of the movie production company. Where as, physically disciplining is done for the benefit of the child (of course that is within reason, if you're beating the shit outta your kid for no reason, or you are putting the kids through discipline similar to Russian special forces, then you are obviously insane).
One possible situation I see comparable to the elephant's situation is human trafficking.

In ‘Water for Elephants,’ Safety Stars in the Center Ring: From Large Cats to Larvae, American Humane Association Certifies That ‘No Animals Were Harmed’®
No star too large or small to protect; actor Robert Pattinson notes American Humane Association was even looking after the maggots
LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2011 – From a four-ton elephant to tiny fly larvae, American Humane Association was on the set of “Water for Elephants” ensuring that every animal in the production was treated humanely and kept safe. American Humane Association awarded this 20th Century Fox film its highest rating, “Monitored: Outstanding - ‘No Animals Were Harmed’®.”
“It’s a big endorsement to get from the American Humane Association,” said lead actress Reese Witherspoon. “They’re very conscious of how the animals are treated. They’re on set every day, making sure the animals were provided safe facilities and safe transportation and that they can only work a certain amount of hours. They are just the happiest animals — you can tell!”
Lead actor Robert Pattinson said, "Elephants are the most sophisticated, gentle creatures you could possibly hope to work with.” He noted, “It’s nice to know that there’s a company that literally was [even] looking after the maggots, checking after the maggots being treated right.”
Based on the best-selling novel by Sara Gruen, “Water for Elephants” is about a veterinary student who joins a traveling circus during the Depression era. Among the animals he attends to are horses, lions, tigers, leopards, zebras, llamas and his favorite, Rosie the elephant. Rosie was played by Tai, who lives on a ranch in Southern California. During the day, Tai stayed around her large, custom transport vehicle, free to go in or out as she wished. She worked on-set only a couple of hours at a time and received plenty of breaks for rest, snacks and “calls of nature.” Throughout the entire filming process, an American Humane Association Certified Animal Safety Representative™, Gina Johnson, ensured that Tai received proper treatment. While Tai and her trainer focused on her performance, Johnson diligently monitored the temperature, lighting, other animals, people and other requirements of American Humane Association’s “Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media.”
Although the animal abuse scenes in “Water for Elephants” appear intense, no animals were harmed in filming them. The perception of abuse was created using makeup, fake blood, computer-generated images and post-production sound effects. “Tai was never hit in any way at all,” Johnson said. The elephant did witness the actors swinging sticks and yelling loudly, as they acted out the beating scenes; however, even that aspect of the scene was carefully planned and rehearsed so Tai would not feel anxious or afraid. Tai’s trainer gave her constant positive reinforcement, such as a food treat or play time, to motivate her. So what was one of this enormous animal’s favorite motivational treats? A marshmallow!
