Wind branded phones unlocked to fido?

Hi

I am looking for a phone and found that a lot of these huawei and alcatel phones are cheap android phones. I need something to use for a bit and was wondering if I unlock these phones will I be able to use it on fido? Thanks

You need to find out the frequency these phones are using. It isn't necessarily the carrier though it sometimes provides a good indication of what frequency it is using but a phone can use multiple bandwidths.

So your answer is... Maybe.

Go find out which phone and look up the frequency. If it is running on both wind and fido then yes you can just unlock and switch over.

All GSM-band phones from Wind will work on Fido's 850/1900MHz frequency.

Not all if you want to use 3G data on Fido. Voice works for sure though.

and 2G data will work fine. I run on 2G with my bold 9000 (battery life), and it's just a little slower than 3G.

Thats why I said GSM, GSM is 2G, 3G is HSPA/AWS. No phones from Wind/Mobilicity would work on Fido's 3G (HSPA) network.

GSM is a standard. It applies to 2G and 3G and 4G.

Your previous statement was correct- but I was making it more precise.
