How many times have we been scored on because of it ? A lot. How many times has he got the pass from the goalie and we went down the ice to score a goal ? I don't think I've ever seen us do it. There's no upside to it.
We lost 2 games directly as a result of his calling for the puck last night (1 where the GWG was scored, another where the GTG was scored and then they won in OT) and that's not even including the game where we were up by 1 with like 10 seconds left and, instead of passing it up the ice or dumping it, he opted to skate around in our zone, turned the puck over, and they scored to tie it up, then we lost in OT. Add another one tonight. We have a tough enough time winning games without spotting teams free goals and, if I had to venture a guess, he's usually spotting around 2 freebies every 3 games. It pisses me off because he's a good player, but he puts his own agenda ahead of the team. |
In all honestly, as James said we talked it out via text because these discussions he (and anyone else may have been attempting with me) were done through the headset typically which I don't play with sound (or have music on).
Dave brought it up with me, talked to James it's a non-issue I just don't call for the puck any more when its covered. I didn't even know we were getting this serious into it so hence why I took it casually.
Oh, and reached Legend 1 and now have a bluetooth headset, hopefully I can just use it as a mic and not for sound as well...

You can turn your tv sound off and still use the headset, your headset should have it's own volume.

I've played a few drop-in games and tried out a few new builds. I didn't know height and weight made such a big difference in how quick and agile your guy is with the same stats. I made an 89 OVR Tough Guy and played him at my usual height and weight (5'9" 190), ended up getting 2 goals, 1 assist, and 17 hits in a drop-in game. I decided to bump him up to Boogaard's height and weight (6'7" 265) and my guy turned into a slug.

Holy crap, 17 hits? I think the most I've gotten is 8 or 9 in 1 game. I also changed my player's type to two way forward. I'm able to hit people way easily. Before when my guy was a sniper, I would bounce off other players, even ones that were smaller than me. I was getting a+'s for position play and stats with my sniper build but never anything over a b+ for team play. I didn't know that the player types were graded differently. Once I changed to TWF all my stats were at A every game. I'm at superstar 3 now at 90% to legend 1. If I only knew this sooner. I would have been legend (?) by now |

They're graded the same, but the Sniper has the worst defensive skills in the game whereas the TWF has the best of the forwards. All those extra hits, intimidations, poke checks, stick lifts, pass interceptions, pass deflections, blocked shots, etc. that you get from the defensive skill upgrades all add to your team play score.
Here are some related threads on the matter from the NHL 12 forums: EA Forums Quote:
Hi all,
I know you guys have had many posts about being stuck at a certain grade level and are unable to progress in the EASHL. Thanks to your multiple posts we looked into the grading further and found that there wasn't anything specifically wrong with the code, but we didn't clearly show you what each grade was on a per position basis in the Performance Tracker. In our latest patch we now show your overall grade for each position as well as your overall Skater grade.
For each position, we look at your last 20 games for that position and determine your grade (again for that specific position), and we weigh the more recent games more heavily than the 20th game. Having said that, your Skater overall grade is determined on an average of all of your grades for each position, weighing more heavily on the position that has more games played.
The weighting itself is pretty simple. We look at your Center grade x Center GP / Skater GP + RW grade x RW GP / Skater GP + LW grade x LW GP / Skater GP + D grade x D GP / Skater GP
This way we weigh more heavily on the position that you play most
I hope this clears things up and I apologize that nothing could be mentioned earlier. We simply had to wait until the patch was released before I could explain this further.
| I can't seem to find the thread with the team play grades specifically explained
What I do know/remember is ...
The following improve your teamplay:
- Hits
- Intimidation
- Blocked Shots
- Good Shots
- Takeaways
- Winning Fights
- Winning Faceoffs
- Successful Loose Puck Dekes
- Screening the Opposing Goalie
- Successfully Killing Penalties
- Poking the Puck Loose
- Completing Passes
The following degrade your teamplay:
- Offsides
- Icings
- Poor Shots (shots that miss the net or are blocked)
- Turnovers
- Losing Fights
- Losing Faceoffs
- Taking Penalties
- Unsuccessful Loose Puck Dekes
- Getting Hit/Intimidated
Most of them are listed in the Team Play section of the Performance Tracker (EASHL > My Pro > Performance Tracker).

FYI for anyone wishing to join the PS3 RS EASHL team, please message me (n00bxqb) or post your PSN ID in this thread so I can add you to the team. Getting lots of join requests lately and some of the guys are just random people who aren't on the site, so I have to do some screening now. At least Nothin420 is a solid player who we randomly picked up (and he's from Burnaby), but some of the other randoms have been pretty meh.

It was only 5 in a row, though.

edit: jmac. we did win 6 in a row. you sat out one game for food =P Nammer/Mini and I won the game you were away | I don't know if I can make it tonight. Invited to 3 different events in 3 different places by 3 different friends haha.
Invited to pub by 19-year-old girl who I used to work with for her birthday/St. Patrick's day. I'm definitely not going to that one as the GF would castrate me if she found out haha.
2 of my friends' bands are playing tonight, both invited me, one in Victoria and the other in Nanaimo. Both are heavy metal bands, a genre I'm not terribly fond of, but I told the girl I was already committed to one of the shows to get out of her party, so I think I'm going to have to go to one of them. |
