Parking in downtown - in between meters? I am just wondering what are the chances of getting away without paying in between the meters in downtown. Some blocks have a triangle drawn out but no special motorcycle meters. Does that mean it's free? Thanks, just trying to save a few bucks. |
do they have a motorcycle sign for it? are there a no stopping signs pointing towards the triangles? Please be more specific If you want to save a few bucks don't drive downtown take a sky train or bus it's $2.50. There is a difference between saving money and being cheap. If you work downtown there are many parkades that offer cheaper parking if you enter before 9am, that's assuming you are parking for more than 5hours. If you are shopping and you're just lazy to wait for the skytrain to take you down, then you're being cheap and Pay The Parking Meter! |
There are no motorcycle signs for alot of the motorcycle triangles in downtown. The ones that do have special meters. Well, I just want to park for free as a motorcyclist. Having a motorcycle in between meters is really not preventing the city from earning money from cars. |

Motorcycles are allowed to park in the triangles at the end of a block, not the beginning of a block (in the direction of travel on that side of the street). This may be why you're confused why some are marked, signed and metered and others are not. They decided that motorcycles on the corners of the beginning of a block is a hazard, thus why we're limited to the end of a block. Any number of vehicles are permitted to park in a single spot as long as the spot is paid for. Technically by parking "between" spots you're parking in one spot or the other, or if the officer wishes both spots. Thus if the meter is expired in either spot the officer could ticket you. I park downtown often between cars and have yet to receive a ticket. Even with no cars around I'd still park between spots and hope a car eventually parks in on of the spots and feeds the meter :) |
I've asked a Vancouver parking enforcement officer about parking my scooter (that's very motorcycle-like) between meters. They weren't able to give me a straight answer about legal or not. However, they said that as long as I'm not blocking a car, they would just end up leaving me alone. I've ask 2 separate officers, they gave me the same answer. |
Park in the bike lane. |

if you park between meters you risk it getting hit by a car trying to park. If you use pay by phone, you pay half price specifically for motorcycles and scooters. If you are in a no stopping anytime at the end of the block, you will get ticketed. |
