Planning to go there in November. Where should I book hotel? Oakland? San Fran seems very expensive.
We are renting a car so anything with free internet and parking is preferable.

doesn't matter where you rent, you'll be driving everywhere, so you might as well pick one close to highway exits and parking with free wifi.
we went to china town and that was fun, we went to all the tourist places and it was pretty chill.

Be sure to check out Six Flags Discovery Kingdom at Vallejo! You have to take a ferry at the pier.
Also, check out Museum Mechanique at Fisherman's Wharf Pier 45 I think. They've got lots of old vintage arcade machines.
Pretty interesting stuff and entrance is free.

Need quick plans!
We went to Fisherman's Wharf, Haight Street, Union Square / Westfield, Westlake and Serramonte in Day 1.
I need more ideas for the three remaining days...
Where is the Richmond equvilant of San Fran??? We had some Shanghai food and Izakaya... Looking for good Chinese and Japanese food.

just came back from san fran....stayed by union square. Think its better cause parking a overnight is like 30$ around there. If you stay outside of union square, you'd have to transit or drive and thats kinda time consuming.

fisherman's wharf was a complete waste of time. total tourist trap. food sucks, nothing much to see.
it's like a shitty version of granville island.

Planning on going in August. Looking at San Bruno near the airport (across the BART) for easy access. From what I understand, this is about 30mins out of Downtown. Even here, it's looking like 180ish per night for a nicer hotel.
Any issues with staying this far out? I do plan on driving out to SJ and Monterey, so San Bruno is closer, but don't see a need to drive into downtown. Any better locations along the BART line? Or is downtown really the only place to stay?
If I stay in downtown until about 11pm, would there be any issues with getting back on the BART to the hotel?
SF Noob here- sorry if any of the questions are stupid!

Downtown is always nicer to stay if you can - Priceline can get you great deals on hotels, I managed to snag the W San Francisco for about $175/night, and that was a great hotel to stay at. Staying that far out just means that you might be tired when you return to the hotel if you stay out late.

The Marina Motel
Or airbnb, we stayed in the Marina/Cow hollow neighbourhood.
Crissy field is a nice walk in the park/ picnic.
Union St and Chestnut St are the two main drags there.
I ate out and got talking to the locals who filled me in on the fun to be had.
You're not too far from downtown, 15mins, if you want to do the classic tourist bit.

I just relocated to San Francisco and have slowly been trying to find more spots to eat. Been busy settling in so I haven't really tried that much yet.
I've heard a lot of good things about the food truck Senor Sisig. Going to try them out tomorrow.
Saigon Sandwich is another spot that's been recommended.
Will also give House of Prime Rib a visit when I get the chance.

Stinking Rose is one of my faves. I bought their cookbook. Everything they make is infused with garlic. Prime Rib was my fave.
SoMa/North Beach has a ton of little dive type restuarants. Kind of cool to just walk around and try a few places.
Brenda's French Soul Food was interesting. Wasn't my fave but good experience. Their pastries were excellent.
I've been there quite a few times, I usually just end up trying something near where I am. I haven't gone anywhere that's been horrible. But dining out gets expensive, so half the times end up at some pho/chinese/jap place. Nothing to brag about. Just run of the mill stuff we have in Van.
Yelp is very useful for SF.

i've found just hoping online and finding what's around you with good ratings is pretty easy to do in san fran.
it's such a big city there's always something relatively close by.
San Tung chinese restaurant was great. like being back in chinatown in the 80's. stupid busy place. absolutely hit the spot for some classic chinese.
Domo was a nice little japanese place. basically no cooked food. it was right in our hood, open late and licensed. they made a japanese taco that was different and tasty.
Ton Kiang was decent, but it's really getting dim sum for dinner that was awesome. has a few good dishes has a few meh dishes, i'd call it an average dim sum place if it was in vancouver. there's no way any chinese person would call this the best or top 5 dim sum place imo. the bbq pork spareribs were great though.

It was quite the show. Looks like a theatre when you walk in. Then they have a DJ booth and stage complete with crazy lighting and acrobatics while spinning some awesome house music.
Bottles were "cheap" in comparison to here. I think it was like $160 for goose.

staying at the Standfort Court Inn in the Financial district. Its a great hotel. Free wifi (alot of places charge for wifi apparently? need to verify this)
Pretty good area, central to Chinatown and SOMA(South of Market)
Lots of highend and even lowend shopping here (H&M, forever21)
Places to avoid: Tenderloin at night. high crime rate apparently. Oakland is pretty dangerous too ive heard
went clubbing at The Grand last saturday. was promised lots of taiwanese girls, not that many that night though.
I'll be here for a bit. Msg me if you want to meetup for a drink or anything!
