New phone help

I've been using an Iphone 3G for awhile now and I've been wanting a new phone as this phone is pretty slow when it comes to web browsing. I feel it's lacking in features, mainly -->Camera, Screen size, Web browsing speed.

I don't really care about call features as I mainly text/use the web etc. I would like the phone to be unlockable/unlock as I travel regularly.

I'm trying to shy away from the Iphone 4 as I want to try something new.

I'd prefer aBig screen, as long as I can get through 1 day with out charging with basic usage, I'm happy.

Any suggestions on decent phones to look at?

If you mostly text, get a BlackBerry for BBM.

You mentioned you are not as interested in the iPhone 4, but it really does have one of the best Cameras on a phone. Not even counting in all the 3rd party apps, which make it better.

I've been a long time iPhone user since the 2G.
I have a Nexus S and an iPhone 4 and I would stay away from the Nexus S if the camera is important to you.

The Nexus S camera quality is quite bad. The exposure adaptivity is not as balanced as the iPhone 4. There are many times where the pictures are washed out. It really feels like you have an oily lens or are some toy camera filter, but it's just how off the camera is. There are times when the camera works, but it's not as consistent as the iPhone4.

My 2nd gripe with the Nexus S. The shutter sound is REALLY loud. The only way around it is to silence the phone before you take a picture. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being a whisper and 10 is a loud clap of your hands, the iPhone is a 3 the Nexus is a 8.

I also found the battery on my iPhone 4 to last longer than my Nexus S with similar 3G usage for web, twitter, email. If I have skype running in the background, the iPhone wins hands down by a good 1-2 hours.

As for web browsing, the Nexus feels a lot faster with loading pages and you have greater flexibility with choosing different browsers. Since you can't change the default browser on the iPhone, unless you jailbreak it. It's also really convenient to search things on the Nexus, you just hit the search button and you're off on the web to search.

The one thing I do miss from the iPhone is the smart zooming. When you double tap on a page Safari will zoom to the actual size of the column on the page. The Nexus doesn't zoom to the format of the web page and over zooms and most of the time.

These are my experiences with my phones. I would pick the iPhone 4 over an android phone, especially now that iOS 5 is on the way.

I don't really want a "Super camera" just something better then my camera on the 3g. It's not that I don't like the Iphone...it's more that I just want a change of OS as I like to play around with things.

I've been contemplating the Nexus as it's pretty cheap/has a nice look to it.

I really hate though how most cell phone places won't let you demo the phones in the store. Do any of the bigger box stores have demo models? I really want to play with Android but havn't had a chance.

That's the same reason why I bought the Nexus S. I wanted to try something else. The Nexus S is fun to play with, especially with all the Roms, Launchers, widgets and themes.

The android market feels like Cydia on the iPhone. There are a lot of really awesome tweaks, but the Apps and games lack polish and cost more.

I tried the Nexus S at Futureshop before I bought it.

LG2X, dual core cpu phone

HTC Sensation, dual core cpu phone

JKam 06-12-2011 08:43 PM

I just picked up the SE Arc and that thing is pretty good.. Fixed most of the issues with the X10 and so much lighter, thinner and faster. Not to mention a pretty big screen.

!MiKrofT 06-13-2011 09:14 AM

I've seen some decent pictures come out of a Nexus S. It's not the worst thing out there that you make it seem to be. You can't compare the iPhone 4 camera since it's technically a better camera obviously. The shutter sound can be fixed easily by just using a different camera app.

RevRav 06-20-2011 08:54 PM

What do you people think between these four? They are awful similar.
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Wildfire S
- HTC Salsa

The Sensation, obviously being the newest (and most expensive one) have the best specs. But for the steep increase in its price, most of us end-users might not be really be able to really benefit from the whole dual-core processor. I haven't really seen the Salsa for sale anywhere locally, or in the Asia market.

What do you guys think?

!MiKrofT 06-20-2011 09:14 PM

I wouldn't even consider the Wildfire or the Salsa. Low res and small screen. If you don't need dual core HTC Incredible S would be my choice. But it also depends on which carrier you're using as u might not get 3G service.
