| my dog barks = bitchy neighbour
so, my back yard faces my alley way. my dog enjoys sitting on a plastic lawn chair on the deck where she can see down the alley way and the street at the top of the alley. shes a 10 year old german shepherd, and shes been sitting there during the days since she was a pup...she enjoys it. if she sees someone, she'll bark, but usually after a few seconds someone from my family will tell her to shut up and she will.
well, the guy that lives directly across from my house, is an older guy, aprox. mid 50's id say. he lives in a basement suite, and everytime my dog makes so much as one single bark, hes outside screaming and yelling at my dog saying "SHUT THAT FU**ING DOG UP" and etc.
at night time, my dogs stay inside except to go to the bathroom...and i have a 7ft fence that they cant see through, so if they're in my yard barking, its because my dogs are playing with each other.
im sick and tired of this guy bitching and yelling at my dog...hes lived there for maybe 3 months...ive lived here for 25 years. what can he possibly do? cause im not keeping my dogs trapped inside my house all day just to make this loser happy, and im not putting a bark collar on my dog either.
jsut curious as to what this guy is able to do? ive heard people say that he can call city hall and i can be fined for my dog barking....
any input towards what i can do and what hes capable of doing as to getting me and my dog fined?

i had a dog that i eventually had to give away, it was constantly barking very loud to the point my neighbors got pissed. your local bylaw officer will usually be the one handling the complaint. surrey bylaw officer came to our house prolly about 4 times threatning to fine us and then we finally just got rid of the dog, never got fined so hopefully ur bylaw officer may be just as nice and give u a few warnings. also the bylaw officer "apparently" talked to alot of the neighbors and they all agreed that my dog was a nuisance. so in your case if its just the one guy getting pissed off you can tell the by law officer ur story that you have bin living there forever and no one has ever had a problem until the guy moved in 3 months ago and they may have a chat with some other nieghbors of yours and realize the one guy whos complaining is an idiot.

It's one thing for your dog to be barking during the day, and even that should not be for like anything past 3 minutes straight...but once it's past like 11pm, you're dog either needs to shut up, or be held inside. I don't see it as big of a deal during the day, but people are trying to sleep at night so uhh.....eeyahhh.....

If it's not consistent and not happening at out standing hours (early morning, late at night) then I don't think that ass has anything he can do. Read your local noise bylaw and it will say something along the lines of "animals are not allowed to be making constant noise". Dogs bark, just don't let it happen for long periods of time.
But, you could always call your bylaw officer and ask?

Keep the dog quiet, coming from a guy with a neighbour with an annoying dog, it's fucking frustrating.
I tried talking to the owner, left a letter, wrote to strata to no avail; I had to shut that POS up so I did. I trained that dog that every time it barked it got a loud air horn as an answer and maybe the occasional bb shot to the ass.
(I'm a dog owner, but humans come first)

By the sounds of the OP's original statement, the dog barks and then the owners quiet it down. Not everyone traps their dog inside all day and dogs will bark time to time.
If the dog is going NONE stop, then put the mutt down as there is probably something wrong with it lol

even during the day light hours, when she barks, its no more then 30 seconds at max! once we hear her barking, we go check what shes barking at (theres a few punk ass kids who are constantly in and out of jail who live in a basement suite on my block, and they constantly break into cars and houses on my block....so we just check out of habbit to make sure they're not touching our shit)

If I were in this situation I would ask a few neighbors if they ever had an issue with your dog barking, and if they all say no, it's confirmed that basement suite guy is nuts. Then go for a walk over to basement suite guys house, knock on the door upstairs and let the owners know what their tenant has been doing. I know I wouldn't be happy if my tenant were pissing off the neighbors, especially by yelling "shut that fucking dog up" repeatedly. Quote:

Sooner or later, you'll have to train your dog to not bark randomly. In the meantime, brown bag a pile of dog shit, light it on fire, place it at the neighbors door step, ring the doorbell and run.

I know for Surrey it has to be three neighbours that make a noise complaint before the bylaw people will even look into it. Usually they have to document how many times a day and for how long the dog barks. A few barks once in awhile isn't enough to get a complaint investigated. Besides as he's a tenant I would bet he probably won't file a complaint.
Maybe explain to the man that the dog is looking out for his stuff too.

They are very suspicious dog breed, i guess good guard dogs.
She never barks at night time though. It doenst bother us if she barks on the deck, in their backyard or garage. That tenant guy is probably just weird

I agree to talk to your other neighbors, ask if they have had a problem with the barking. If not, then when the tenant comes outside to tell the dog to "STFU" you should yell back "NO! YOU STFU!"

If im outside while my dog is barking, i encourage my dog to bark even more by saying "sick em" or "who's there?!" just so i can hear that fuck stain yell so im able to yell back at him.
