I'm really surprised there's no thread on this one yet.
I just got back from watching it and I have to say the story line and plot was beyond excellent. It's honestly one of the better movies I have seen in ages. I thought it was a very different spin on similar movies that have came out in the past which made me really enjoy. This is the move you have to see.
The "Alien" is also a fail on its part. All he does is kill for revange.
It should have got in contact with those kids more. But...its only the last part.
This movie should have gone deeper emotion. But its not.
To be honest, I didn't think this was a great movie at all. I found X-men first class much more entertaining and I'm not a comic fanatic.
Steven Speilberg was making this too similar to E.T to the point where it was basically E.T. with modern special effects.
There's something about having kids as the protagonists that really destroys movies, especially this one. When I see those kids acting the way they do and deciding to, in a very broad sense without spoiling the movie, "be heroes", I just laugh in my mind and view it as a joke. I expected better but I was highly disappointed.
3/10 - I fell asleep and was awoken by loud cannon noises.
I liked it but it had all the typical pacing problems you would expect from JJ Abrams. It relies pretty heavily on nostalgia so if you were not a child of the 80s, I can see how you totally wouldn't get it.
I'd give it a 7/10.
Xman First Class I thought was much more solid and entertaining. I"ll agree with Dasani there - closer to an 8/10.

The ending was just that, an ending. It felt like all the buildup and suspense to the ending was wasted. The movie went for too long and they just wanted to send you all home after they pocketed your money.
In all fairness, the kids werent bad at acting. They had their funny parts.

ending was weak,Action scene's felt so used & seen Before from Previous movie's like "BATTLE OF L.A" with the whole Enemie vs ARMY war going on in a Town this time not a city...
Just because steven spielberd is the producer you have every so called Movie reviewer kissing his ass & rating it movie of the year....whatever...Movie was Okay but nothing ground-breaking or moving...
For me I really liked the movie because it bright this childhood sense of discovery and innocence without be cynical or trying to make the children act like adults. I even liked the second half as well.
I just don't get why:
Spoiler!
They had to play up the mystery of the Alien in the trailers, its just an alien looking to find it's way home, nothing more. I guess JJ is obsessed with viral advertising. I think they should've advertised the movie the way it meant to be: a throw back to old Speilburg films.

great movie i really enjoyed it
its almost on the level of the Goonies and will probably have that effect on the current child generation (not as good by a longshot compared to Goonies but still good)
I thought it was alright, didn't blow me away. I would give it a 7/10, probably wouldn't watch it again. I kind of agree with the goonies reference but it's like goonies meets E.T. but not nearly as good as either.

and cloverfield, and goonies. Those who enjoyed/grew up watching ET and Goonies, would have a much better appreciation of this movie... as mentioned by NewGirl, the nostalgia aspect.
i will have to agree with the majority of reviews here.
good plot, great build up but failed to deilver in the end.
the battle scene in the town was horrible. it seemed as if they were firing in all directions at nothing.
this movie had much more potential. they laid out a lot of pieces in the movie that could have been used to make it more interesting. ie the professors documentation, the kids puzzle piece he smuggled and the camera footage they had of the train derailment.
sorry if the review spoiled anything.. i do not know how to use a spoiler tag.

Reason: spoil
This is they type of moving I grew up watching so thats why I gave it such a good rating. It's the same style movie as kinda ET, Flight of the Navigator etc. It's good to watch harmless kids movies I get tired of a lot of BS that's out there these days and this one is fun plain and simple.

Spoiler!
The "battle scene" wasn't really one... the guns were firing on their own, hence why it seemed like they weren't firing at anything in particular

EXACTLY! this movie is SUCH a breath of fresh air. My jaws were tired by the end of the movie, since I was smiling for 2 hours straight. Easily a 10/10 for me. Posted via RS Mobile
