sand duning Oregon vs. California

I want to go sand dunning while i am in the US.
Both Oregon and California have Sand Dunes but where is the best location to go dunning?
What are your suggestions.
I will be in California and Oregon during the summer.

Not sure about cali, but I have been to the oregon dunes. Pretty cool imho. The dunes go on forever. There is not much there other than the dunes and the coast though so don't expect alot of things to do. For a short vacation you will have an awesome time.

Did you have to make reservations prior?

I was in Florence a few days ago, there's a few rental places along hwy 101, you won't miss them. Here's one I found when I was researching about the rental places.

You do not have to make reservations for rentals. Just walk right in. If all the buggys are out, you may have to wait a bit for some to come back in.

Spinreel is the one I am looking at. 45 mins south of Florence but I guess it's worth it. Very bad reviews for Florence. I think the name was Torex Inc.

+1

Oregon has great views, especially when you're quadding next to the ocean. However, California (St Anthony, especially) has bigger dunes. Just depends what you're looking for.

The Oregon sandunes are pretty good. About 3 hour drive south of Portland. It was fun! But beware about the vehicles. They are POS and they do break down.

We rented for 2 hours, one person's ATV broke down, waited for about 50 minutes to get a new one. And the manager only agreed to extend the time for the person who had the ATV malfunction, but not the rest of the group who stayed behind to wait. Ridiculous policies when the safety video said "always travel with a group and do not drive alone".

This was at Spinreel I think.

Planning to the Sand Dune's this weekend.

Heard horrible reviews of Sand Dunes Frontier / Torex ATV Rentals.

Any other recommendations?

Those who rented the 2/4 seater ATV's, was 30mins enough for first timer? Or would you go for the full hour?
