This is true, NBC needs 2 games to televise nationally in the morning/afternoon slots. Right now only Wash/Bos and Van/LA is guaranteed to go Sunday, so if both Detroit and Pittsburgh gets knocked out tonight, the Canucks game will be an early one to accommodate TV schedule.

Your! Call: Are Luongo's days in Vancouver numbered?

Quote:
Are Roberto Luongo's days in a Vancouver Canucks uniform numbered?

Whenever the off-season arrives for the Canucks, they'll find themselves in a situation no one could have predicted three years ago.

In 2009, the Canucks signed goaltender Roberto Luongo to a 12-year, $64-million contract extension, essentially pegging him as the team's starter until he was ready to retire.

He was fresh off a season in which he was nominated for the Vezina Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award and Hart Memorial Trophy, and he was the team's captain. Signing him long term seemed like a no-brainer.

What they did not foresee was the emergence of their 2004 first round draft pick, Cory Schneider. At that point, the 23-year old goaltender had appeared in a total of eight NHL games. He had recorded two wins, a GAA of 3.38 and a save percentage of .877.

In Vancouver's 2011 playoff run, Luongo took his team to within one game of winning the Stanley Cup. Before Game 6 against the Bruins, many picked him to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP if the Canucks had closed the deal.

This year, after the Canucks lost Games 1 and 2 of their first round series against the L.A. Kings, Luongo was seen as one of the team's best performers in those games. Yet "back-up" Schneider was given the Game 3 start. He lost that game by a score of 1-0.

With Vancouver's back up against the proverbial wall for Game 4, coach Alain Vigneault went back to Schneider, sending a clear message that he saw the understudy as his best chance to extend the series.

And it worked.

Luongo, who only three years ago was signed to be the Canucks starter for 12 years, has lost his claim to that title just two seasons after the contract took effect.

With Schneider slated to become a restricted free agent this summer, the Canucks will have the right to match any offer sheet placed in front of him, and they'll likely re-sign him.

So are Luongo's days in Vancouver numbered?

As always, it's Your! Call.

Right now, from what i have seen and what I have read, it can be either goalies. Down 3-0, there is nothing to lose for the Nuck's to keep playing Schneider. Basically, they could be show casing him to all the potential teams for an off season deal. Or the writing is on the wall and they are going to try to move Lu, which is really less likely since market value may be lowered since the team went with Schides. I don't think Lu's contract will hinder a trade. Since it has been mentioned, a low cap hit, the $10M part of the contract is over and all that remains is the $6M and lower portions of the contract. Only thing that can hinder a move is the NMC.

But one thing is for sure, they supposedly have a capable backup goalie in Eddie Lack so if not this offseason, next off season someone will be gone.

I don't think you get what I'm saying; yes, he's the greatest player in the league, and yes, that alone could be a reason for guys to go after him, but the fact of the matter is that he's getting involved in, and often even initiating fights.....Nobody wants to be known as the guy who ultimately ends Crosby's career early, seeing how he's thought of as god's gift to hockey by most of the hockey world...but the way he plays (getting involved and initiating fights), somebody is eventually going to treat him like any other guy and end up knocking him out....The difference is though that for any other guy it would probably be a small concussion, probably keep him out for 10-15 days....but one more concussion for Crosby? ehhh, he's probably done...............Shit, I wouldn't be surprised if he suffered severe brain damage if he got another major concussion....

For people wondering whats happening with Raffi Torres

Quote:
National Hockey League Senior Vice President of Player Safety and Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan will announce Saturday whether the NHL Department of Player Safety will assess further supplemental discipline to suspended Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres.

Torres was suspended indefinitely Wednesday, pending an in-person hearing held today at the NHL's New York Office, for a hit on Chicago forward Marian Hossa 11:42 into the first period of Game 3 of the teams' Western Conference Quarterfinal series in Chicago on Tuesday, April 17.

Bryzgalov is one of the worst goalies in the playoffs that I've ever seen. His net was open on the Sullivan goal. Another high scoring, barn burner game?

One of the best ever for sure. Not only a great goalie but pretty much forced the NHL to enact the new trapezoid rule to minimize his puck handling prowess.

Just don't understand the hate for Crosby.

I am glad we have two quality starting goalies and I am sure teams like Philly, Tampa, Florida, etc would want either one.

i dont get why everyone, especially on team1040 is so gung-ho on the "Lu is gone"

lu makes 5.2, sign Corey at 3.5

just under 9 mill on 2 great goalies

2 great goalies sharing the load gets you WAYYYY more points over a season than an ovechkin at 9 mill per..

dumping Manny, Raymond, etc. free's up space but then limits the ability to sign depth forwards

Although Lu and Schneids have a good relationship, not sure if mgmt will go for tying up 9 mil with Lack in the works.

you think either of them want to be a back up goalie next season. i would be very surprised if both of them stay with the canucks for next season. no way Cory wants to start next year as a back up goalie again with his skill level, and luongo is not a back up goalie.
