6.3 for kane is overpayment? I'd consider that a good deal for a 22yr old who has been a ppg player (regular and post season) since entering the league.

yeah bro, the same guy who scored the stanley cup winning goal right?
deff over payment. It's not like he's young and talented or anything?

Nashville's Shea Weber is awarded a$7.5 million salary arbitration.
Nashville's offer in arbitration was $4.5mil. This makes Weber a RFA again next year and Nashville no longer has the option to take him to arbitration again next year.

**edit actually that was $4.75mil NSH offered and Weber submitted $8.5mil

Gumby 08-03-2011 10:59 AM

Ouch - these salary arbitration cases can be pretty ugly. If you were Weber, how can you put faith in your organization?

hypediss 08-03-2011 11:04 AM

its either him or suter methinks

Yup, can you imagine what Polie was saying to justify why Weber really only is a $4.75 mil/yr D.

Doughty and his agent must be happy now, they were waiting for Weber's ruling to set Doughty's worth and that's why he hasn't signed yet.

411ken 08-03-2011 11:16 AM

How much do you guys think Doughty will get? I think it will be 6.5-7m?

b0unce. [?] 08-03-2011 12:09 PM

doughty will probably get 6.
hawks paid sharp way too much lol

spoon.ek9 08-03-2011 12:17 PM

punkwax 08-03-2011 12:26 PM

next year nucks put together a package to sign Weber

the way the nucks are built right now, their "first round pick" will almost annually be a late rounder, so almost a 2nd rounder basically

4 second rounders for arguably the best dman in the league at the age of 26?

i'm down

Ronin 08-03-2011 07:14 PM

I'm curious as to why Weber will be an RFA at the end of this 1-year deal instead of a UFA.

Next year will be his 7th year in the NHL. He only played 28 games in his first year but that should be enough to kick off his entry level contract, no? The UFA rule is 27 or 7. He's 25 but he will have played 7 years in the NHL after the coming season.

Can someone that understands the CBA better than me explain this one?

was thinking the exact same

edit- maybe it's because his birthday is August 14th, after the regular season ends..the rule might only apply with players who turn 27 before it ends? no idea

in the 05/06 season, Weber was 9 games short of the 40 game requirement to give him a 7th accrued season like you mentioned.

That's why he'll be a UFA in the 2012/2013 season. That's when he'll have the 7 seasons to become a UFA.

Really? I personally thought that Sharp is worth the money. wasn't he in top 10 in scoring past season? Poor Sharp is so underrated it's not even funny.. He plays hard every shift and scores..

I guess that's what happens when you are in the shadow of Kane/Toews/Hossa/Keith/Seabrook... but works for him..

(I just hope Kesler doesn't get brought up as a comparison) lol

GOOD signing by the hawks

Really? Because we always hear about teams sending rookies down after 9 games so they don't play 10 and invoke the first year of their entry level contract. I assumed that 10 games was enough to count toward the UFA requirement since it counts as a year of contract time.

This current CBA is just full of holes.

dim_sum 08-03-2011 08:47 PM

Hossa for real? what did he do for them in their last two playoff runs lol
