So I was listening to team1040 and they proposed an interesting question: Who will fill Kesler's shoes for the first month of the season? Do we slot Schroeder in? Do we sign a 2nd/3rd line center?
We all know Lappy is a capable 3rd and 4th line centre, would he stay as is or be given a chance to be on the 2nd line? Do we re-sign Pahlsson and try to work with the same forward line model (checking line)?
Lappy or Schroeder can easily do it, also a chance to boost schroeders trade value too. Since this organization never gives young prospect any opportunities.
that would be pretty special to end his career in that fashion. now i wonder if the capitals can manage to knock off the rangers
Yes. It's been a close series with Caps losing two in O/T.

Only a month so lot's of options to access and showcase. Kes might even heal faster than expected.

is there any stats on what happens when a team sweeps or goes 4-1 in a series and has to sit and wait for 2 weeks before they start the next series? i swear it seems teams that have to sit and wait end up blowing the next round (see nashville).
That argument can be seen in two ways. Momentum vs Resting up.
It's just the same argument as top seeded teams resting prior to playoffs vs low seeded teams battling for a playoff spot, already in playoff mode weeks beforehand.
But logically, I would think the rest is more valuable after the 2nd or 3rd round when the players are a bit more tired.
Probably doesn't make as much of a difference after the first round.

ovechkin only 11 min tonight at the start of the third

New York Rangers traded Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto to the Montreal Canadiens for Christopher Higgins, Ryan McDonagh, Doug Janik and Pavel Valentenko.
Go Caps! Win it in New York on Saturday! Ovie played an all around good game tonight. -scoring a goal, blocking shots, getting scoring chances. That's what a captain does when the team's back is against the wall.
Ovechkin showed grit and the heart of a player determined not to go home. Holtby has played well throughout the playoffs.

Well LA and STL both played 5 game round 1's, and LA destroyed STL in round 2. Pred's got owned pretty hard but they only played 1 less game than Phoenix in the first round.
Basically rest vs. momentum/rust as stated. But its the job of the coaching staff to keep the players ready while resting, and the players' own responsibility to stay ready. When you get to conference and cup and finals and it takes you a game or two to get going, you don't deserve to win.
