Extending AV is a good move. Don't think there is a coach out there better to take his place unless Babcock gets fired in Detroit.

JR says he was turning and didn't have time to avoid the hit. Questionable. But it was Brown's choice to stick his leg out and turn that way to make the contact, he needs to be accountable for that action when Roszival had no chance to avoid that contact. It was Brown's fault that he didn't turn far enough for a full on body-body hit, or maybe Brown realized he'd have a higher chance of hurting himself throwing a hit like that.

Rome got 4 SCF games with his questionable late hit, but it was a clean hit otherwise. If Brown was some no name bum, he'd get the same treatment. I bet Shanny turns the other cheek.

But they didn't penalize him. Ultimately, the refs make the call and they didn't. Now, you're comparing Rome's hit, saying it was a "questionable late hit, but it was a clean hit otherwise" was it questionable or clean? Doesn't matter, refs made the call. Move on.

We don't actually know whether the ref's decided that Brown's 'hit' was clean, or that it was missed--there is a distinct difference. However there have also been instances where the call was not made on the ice, but suspension was still handed out after the fact. So really at this point I don't care about the call or non-call on the ice, I'm more interested in how the league treats this incident after throwing Torres under the bus as the poster boy a few weeks ago.

Brown won't be suspended, he ain't no Rome, suspending a player for part of the SCF.. especially a star player and the captain.. okay... 1% chance it happens.

Then again Shanny might surprise me again as he has throughout the season and the playoffs

length of extension was not announced

badgerx3 05-23-2012 02:17 PM

i heard it was a 2 year extension via tsn

murd0c 05-23-2012 02:33 PM

Yep it was 2 years

highfive 05-23-2012 02:44 PM

Reading on HFBoards and CDC...a lot of people are pissed about AV's extension...

I personally can't wait till the SC playoffs are over and it's OFFSEASON!!!! NHL Draft..what would Gillis do? Will he pull off another trade like the Bernier / Grabner / first for Ballard and Oreskovich? What would happend to Luongo? Schneider?

IMO, the best news would be Schneider signing a 2-4 year deal with us at a reasonable cap hit.

murd0c 05-23-2012 02:58 PM

AV had a interview eariler today and was asked about the goaltending situtation and his quote was "what happened in the playoffs might be an indication of what happens moving forward"

JesseBlue 05-23-2012 03:34 PM

that means a two goalie system...i can live with that :)

Not really racist! 05-23-2012 03:38 PM

so 5.2mil + (3 -4 mil) ~ 8.2 -9.2m for our goaltending....

am I the only one who thinks we should just unload one even tho that would be a crazy combo?

DanHibiki 05-23-2012 04:00 PM

He's saying Rome's hit is clean (if timed properly), but questionable as the opponent no longer had the puck.
and Brown's hit was illegal, regardless if the opponent has the puck or not.

Either way, the officiating is turning out to be a big joke. If everyone watching the game on TV can see what's happening with instant replay,
I don't see how the refs cannot make proper calls. Hell, if they just looked up and officiated using the big jumbotron, they would do a better job.

:fulloffuck:

This is comparable to soccer where instant replays aren't used, even though the technology is there.

cliffhanger33 05-23-2012 06:06 PM

Tie game :okay:
