New York Rangers forward Sean Avery was arrested at his home early Friday morning for battery on a police officer in Hollywood Hills, California.

The Associated Press reports that Avery was jailed for seven hours before being released after he posted $20,000 bail.

According to NBC New York, Avery was having a party at his home when noise complaints from neighbours twice brought police to investigate.

On the officers' second visit, the report said that Avery allegedly argued with police and pushed an officer out of the way to go back inside his house.

The report added that Avery closed the door and refused to speak to officers. After additional police were called to the scene, Avery eventually did come out and co-operated and was arrested for battery of a police officer.

A Rangers spokesperson said that they will discuss the matter with Avery and have no further comment at this time.

The NHL is also investigating the situation, but isn't commenting at this time.

It didn't take long for newly-signed Dan Carcillo to stoke the fire of the Chicago Blackhawks rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks.

Asked what he thought of the Canucks at his introductory press conference, Carcillo did what he does best.

"I watched that series and I'm actually pretty excited to play them because there's a few guys there that I think played a little bit outside of their shoes," Carcillo said. "I think I can keep most of those guys in check when we play them this year so I'm pretty excited to play them."

When asked to name specifically which players he had a problem with, the 26-year-old winger didn't hold back.

"Lapierre, Glass, and Torres. Just because. Lapierre's at the top of the list."

While Tanner Glass and Raffi Torres have since moved on from the Canucks - Glass signed with the Winnipeg Jets and Torres with the Phoenix Coyotes - Carcillo will get his wish to meet Lapierre in a Canucks uniform. The first of four meetings between the Blackhawks and Canucks is November 6 in Chicago.
Since when did they have introductory press conferences for mouth breathers like Carcillo, and does he not realize Torres & Glass are not with the team anymore?

What a dumbass.

To be fair to Carcillo, if Torres and Lapierre weren't on a team I was a fan of, I'd want them bitch slapped too. Glass is a non factor that is just a waste of space even as a Canucks fan.

Carcillo however is an idiot for not realizing Torres and Glass are no longer Canucks.

spoon.ek9 08-08-2011 12:59 PM

meh, don't care what carcillo has to say.

mirtle James Mirtle
Brian Burke's on @TSN1050Drive right now talking about how the Canucks were in talks to acquire Gretzky 23 years ago.

mirtle James Mirtle
Burke said the Oilers wanted three first-round picks, $18-million, Greg Adams and another player for just Gretzky.

shawn79 08-09-2011 02:17 PM

Bure gretzky > hull gretzky

Ronin 08-09-2011 03:01 PM

I would've done that trade. Shit, people are saying we should trade 4 first rounders for Weber. Gretzky's worth at least 8 then.

Gumby 08-09-2011 03:08 PM

I can see Gretzky being worth x number of 1st round picks and players A, B, and C, but how do they come up with the $18 million figure? :p

JesseBlue 08-09-2011 04:06 PM

^ pocklinton needed the money...

spoon.ek9 08-09-2011 05:35 PM

yup, LA was selling out their tickets but they were also dirt cheap at the time. scalpers were making a fortune because everyone wanted to see #99 play.

shawn79 08-09-2011 05:57 PM

Oilers fan should be glad Pocklinton chose to keep the Oilers in Edmonton instead of Gretzky. It was one or the other. They won another cup without Gretzky in 1990 and now with two 1st overall picks... something to be happy for???

spoon.ek9 08-09-2011 07:12 PM

yep, and ironically, gretzky never won another cup after leaving the oilers.

JesseBlue 08-09-2011 07:57 PM

almost won once with the kings...
