Shocking!! RIP. Had the chance of meeting him when he was staying in Vancouver; super nice guy in person and pretty chill. You're going to be missed Rick Rypien!!

spideyv2 08-15-2011 05:54 PM

I remember watching Rypien fuck Valabik up at the Nucks vs Thrashers game in December 09..

gonna miss the guy

Hondaracer 08-15-2011 05:54 PM

Sad...even worse he never really achieved any potential he had

What in his life could have been so bad to kill yourself

RIP. Maybe the personal issues were a factor in his death, but he will always be remembered for trying to fight guys twice his size.

RIP Rypien.

Some boards are speculating he hanged himself. This is sad news if it is true.

First Boogaard, now Rypien - both having completed time in the NHL substance abuse program. This is going to hurt the NHL's image for sure and put a spotlight on fighting and the lifestyle of NHL "enforcers"

mb_ 08-15-2011 06:35 PM

Some Rypien fights.. RIP

Hate to do this man but..

1. It's hung himself, not hanged. Edit..wow, buddy on fb corrected me when I said hanged. Facepalm myself then

2. Rypien never spent time int he substance abuse program.

Go to 1:40. He states that substance abuse is NOT the problem.

Sorry, it's actually hanged himself. RIP Rypper, my favourite fighter :(

MR_BIGGS 08-15-2011 06:44 PM

I thought he had agreed to enter the program. Guess not.

It is "hanged" when referring to people isn't it?

pure.life 08-15-2011 06:57 PM

This is so sudden. RIP Rypien.

I'll always remember him being a pound for pound fighter and one of the best middleweights in the league. While many posters have praised his ability to fight players twice his size, his fights with Brandon Prusts were probably the most memorable for me. This one tops it off:

mako 08-15-2011 07:15 PM

he could score too
