Apparently this was about the time his battle with depression really set in

punkwax 08-17-2011 09:24 AM

The plot thickens... I bet when Pyatt's gf passed it brought back a lot of bad memories for Rypien.

One of the top quarterbacks of all time, Terry Bradshaw suffered from depression during his prime playing days. Remember hearing him speak about it, really tough thing for a pro athlete to deal with.

NHL research and development camp started today. GM's and execs are taking a look at:
- no touch icing
- no icing permitted while short-handed
- no line changes after an offside

No icing while other team is on the PP? thought this was already a rule

I think they mean no icing of the puck allowed during SH

vs.

no icing calls (which is what it is now)

Not really racist! 08-17-2011 12:41 PM

^ i think no icing when you're on the PP then? :/

no dumping the puck while ur team is SH.
this its to hopefully force more scoring...

the team on SH must then carry the puck out of their own zone

The rule they will be talking about is no icing for the team on PK. It's a very interesting one as PK strategies will be completely different since you can't just dump the puck out but changing your PKers will be a bitch unless they alow an exception of some sort. Either way it's interesting though.

It will make the PK more effective = more goals

It will make players think more than twice to commit a penalty = perhaps

I guess they talking about no icing at all for both sides at all when a penalty is being served?

other way around

MR_BIGGS 08-17-2011 01:06 PM

I hate the rule where you get a penelty for shooting the puck over the glass for a delay of game.

Instead, they should have a defensive zone faceoff and no chance for a line change.

Dropped by the Rypien memorial outside Rogers Arena last night. I'll be heading down there at around 3:30 today.

erm, an effective penalty kill means less goals are scored..

Bouncing Bettys 08-17-2011 01:41 PM

It's bad enough teams have to kill chintzy penalties when the opposition is diving, embellishing, and basically making hockey into soccer. Now they want to increase scoring for teams awarded the power play? Whats next - making the team on the PK play without a goalie?

Ronin 08-17-2011 01:56 PM

Why are people always trying to change hockey? It's by far the most exciting sport out there. Guys with fucking knives strapped to their feet shoot what is basically a rubber bullet around at 90MPH and sometimes they FIGHT. There's no other organized team sport in the world that just lets you fight. How the fuck is this not exciting enough for stupid Americans?

You never hear people wanting to change baseball. That game is goddamn boring and I never see a stadium more than half full. Why isn't baseball full contact? Why aren't pitchers aiming for the batter? Why aren't there cheerleaders? Why isn't the ball actually made of snakes?

Seriously...I'm tired of the NHL trying to make the game higher scoring to cater to idiots in America that can't follow a black dot on a white surface.

RIP man

RRxtar 08-17-2011 03:11 PM

No no-icing while on PK is a rule that should have been made forever ago.

as TSN put it "Let's think about this one for a second. If icing isn't allowed in even strength situations then why is a team on the penalty kill, a situation in which they are being penalized, allowed to ice the puck?"

Uhhh, you're a leafs fan so you may not know it, but that's exactly why the Canucks weren't getting legitimate calls their way during the SCF. The players in question are the usual suspects: Sedins, Burrows, Kesler, (and before the play-offs, for the last 2 seasons, Luongo which is why he wasn't getting much calls for contact around the crease).

Phantom calls does occur but make no mistake, when you're labelled an embellisher/diver/whiner.... referree's do wisen up to it.

Look at Crosby and how much abuse he now takes due to whining for every single contact... or better yet, how about the Burrowsgate which was initiated from an embellishment a few games before.

But don't tell Canucks fans this. :shhh:
