I think 5.5m per is a really good deal for the Islanders, especially considering what other players are getting this off-season. He's still on his entry level contract for the upcoming season so when this deal kicks in, I'd say there's a good chance that he's near or at least a point-per-game player. IMO, he'll be able to crack 100+ points sometime during that contract, he still has a lot of high-end potential.

Good player on his team because he lacks supporting players but a beast when paired with top end talent.

yeah pretty much, rick nash is was always just stuck on a garbage team with no players to help him at all. i always felt if you gave the guy one or two top players to play with him, his point production will go through the roof.

he's proven when he played for team canada that he's probably the most dominant player on the team.

shawn79 09-15-2011 02:35 AM

canucks heritage classic should be played in the new bc place with the opened roof :sweetjesus:

SkinnyPupp 09-15-2011 03:48 AM

Yeah all they'd need to do is move BC place to Alberta for a day :troll:

With all these 6-7 year extensions the free agent market is getting thinner and thinner each offseason... I remember one season when Vanek was signed to that 7 year contract and most people in the league said those contracts are impossible to get. How times changed huh?

I'm loving Kesler's contract by the minute

Excellent deal for the Sabres. Now they have their top 2 D locked up for the foreseeable future.

At about the 33 second mark, top left, the video says "Team colors - Detroit: Red, Carolina: White". Only in America!

I like what ray Ferraro had to say on the radio this morning, what is a player like doughty, who in all terms has the skill/ability to be that upper echelon guy doing turning down 6.7 mill a year at the age of 22 when last season he came to camp over weight and out of shape

He went on to say that as a GM he would have no problem in the world giving a player like toews any length of contract he wanted because a player like toews you know is going to be 100% committed to his craft for that contract, players who can't stay in shape during the season, let alone off season ie. Bigfaglin must have gm's shaking in their boots that you have a guy like that locked up long term

The Hype 09-15-2011 12:56 PM

THE FLASH IS BACK!!!!!!

Quote:

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Teemu Selanne is returning for another season with the Anaheim Ducks, agreeing to a one-year contract.

Anaheim announced the deal Thursday for Selanne, the franchise's 41-year-old career scoring leader.

Selanne was the NHL's eighth-leading scorer last season with 80 points, the third-best season by a player in his 40s in league history. The Finnish Flash is the 27th-leading scorer in NHL history, 14th in goals.

Selanne was expected to return after his outstanding season, but spent the summer debating his future after post-season knee surgery. He has been skating daily in Anaheim in recent weeks.

Selanne's decision to return is a huge boost to the Ducks, who open training camp on Saturday.

pure.life 09-15-2011 01:03 PM

It'll be nice to see Selanne play the Jets in mid-December. It's gonna be crazy down there!

btw, Selanne is worth every Penny. Doughty, not so much (At least he proves he has good work ethic)

Ronin 09-15-2011 01:58 PM

I wasn't a Selanne fan before but as he gets older, I enjoy watching him play more. Him and Lidstrom are proof that NHL players can still be superstars into their 40's.

Holy fuck what crazy news at 10:30 on a thursday night :sleepingzz::sleepingzz::sleepingzz::sleepingzz:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=375906

Quote:

When the Toronto Maple Leafs open training camp on Friday, they will have Luke Schenn on the blueline.

Schenn agreed to a five-year contract with the club on Thursday night. While exact details of the deal are not known, it is believed that Schenn will earn approximately $3.5 million per season.

Schenn, 21, played all 82 games last season and scored five goals and 17 assists. The Saskatoon native is entering his fourth season with the Maple Leafs.

The 6'2, 215-pound rearguard finished his three-year, $2.625 million entry level contract at the end of last season. He was Toronto's first round pick, fifth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

^cheap deal considering all the big contracts handed out of late : tavares, myers, possibly doughty in the works (who wants 7.8~ near of kopitar)

Harvey Specter 09-15-2011 10:11 PM

I can't believe Teemu got $4 million for one year but it's well deserved, the guy is a monster.
