What happened to this kid being our next elite, blue chip centre man?
Or was that just idiot homers on CDC gassing him up?

I guess only time will tell

TSN is discussing Luongo may possibly be on the move. While I highly doubt it, I also heard Florida is involved in this deal.

Laff.

shawn79 06-20-2011 05:13 PM

Move luongo and he will still be hungry for the cup

Watercloset 06-20-2011 05:22 PM

Move Luongo and we have a shot at signing Richards or possibly matching NJ for Parise if Parise sticks around in the RFA pool for long enough.

AzNightmare 06-20-2011 05:25 PM

Luongo can be moved??
I thought he couldn't in his contract.

punkwax 06-20-2011 05:25 PM

Luongo won't be moved.

The only way Luongo moves is if Luongo wants to move. And if Luongo wants a cup, he won't want to move. Especially to fucking Florida of all places.

spoon.ek9 06-20-2011 05:28 PM

yeah, no. not going to happen.

LSF22 06-20-2011 05:32 PM

luongos wife lives in florida so if she wears the pants, he'll move

spoon.ek9 06-20-2011 05:35 PM

can you imagine (just for the sake of discussion) that it actually happens and cory doesn't pan out? that would be absolute disaster.

LSF22 06-20-2011 05:38 PM

more dumb riots

Parise's not going anywhere. NJ has filed for arbitration so teams won't be able to tender him any offer sheets if NJ can't get him signed before Jul 1. Even if NJ didn't file for arbitration, NJ gets to MATCH an offer from other teams, not the other way around

Sounds like the late 90's/early 2000's all over again. Goalie of the future? I'd hate to see Schneids follow in the footsteps of Keven Weekes. I'm reluctant to jump on the Schneider bandwagon just yet. He's got a cool/calm demeanor and is technically strong, but so was Alex Auld when he was backing up. All too often we've seen a young goalie play a strong 1st or 2nd season then just totally fizzle out after that. Good young goalies with potential need to be properly developed like any other position, and a big part of that is knowing your role as a backup and earning your way up to the big times. We'll see how Reimer handles next season in TO with such high expectations now in a high pressure market.

If i was gillis, I wouldn't willingly trade Lu, but if he truly wants to go, then i'd accomodate. No point in having someone who doesn't want to be here

Anything dealing with Luongo probably goes even over MG's head. The deal is probably made at the very top with Aquilini. That's why Lu can coach himself in the finals and why AV is forced to play him even after letting in 8 goals

punkwax 06-20-2011 06:16 PM

SP - you saw AV pull Lu in game 6. He's still the coach. He asked Lu if he wanted out in game 4, but at that point, Lu felt the Canucks still had a chance. Lu was confident they could come back and in hindsight, it was a BIG mistake.

Lu doesn't run shit like you may think he does. That being said, he's as respected as anyone in that organization. His dedication and hard work has earned AV's trust in his instincts as an athlete. Hence him asking him if he wanted out.

As a guy who has played hockey most his life and seen a lot of goalies get shit on for little reason, thats the way I see it anyway.

TSN is a few days late.

Team1040 talked about this a day of the cup final game. Yes, Florida is reportedly interested but the reason why Florida is been thrown around is because they're the only team with enough cap space to sign him. I doubt Lu would even consider going back to Miami but what if Tampa shows interest, that could make things interesting because Lu's wife never liked Vancouver and spends most, if not all her time down in Florida.

Do you guys think Tim Thomas would be affected if he played in a Canadian hockey market like Montreal, Vancouver or Toronto?

There is immense pressure on players that play in the Canadian market. Look what Carey Price went through. Granted these guys are professional hockey players, and in the case of Luongo, where he signed the deal for the big bucks to stay here and consume the pressure and spotlight, would a guy like Thomas, who doesn't seem to get phased faulter a bit because of playing in a Canadian city?

I think it takes a certain kind of personality to take the mental part of it. Look at Kipper in Calgary...he doesn't seem to get too phased when the pressure is on him to perform. I thought Price had the same mental toughness as Luongo until this season, where I think he really proved himself.

spideyv2 06-20-2011 06:48 PM

Luongo can't move. Doesn't he have a NTC for another 5-6 years, which doesn't allow him to move even if he wanted to?

No. You have pressure at any level, or in any city in pro sports. I mean really the players don't have to answer to many people. The same media guys are there every day and you can give the lamest answer's possible. Ok, say they are walking around plain jane out in the open. People are so star struck in Canada that they love you no matter what. No one would ever see Luongo and tell him he choked and sucked in Game 7 for the stanley cup ( :crybaby: ) because they would be so blown away that they just saw Luongo, and maybe after they finished tweeting/fb'ing that they just saw Luongo he would be gone anyway.

The pressure is from within your self and the team to perform. So markets in the US that suck, might even have more pressure to perform because winning results are needed. In Canada they are not. Just look at Toronto.

The player himself can waive the NTC.

Harvey Specter 06-20-2011 07:02 PM

Yup, he can request a trade.

spideyv2 06-20-2011 07:09 PM

wtf, someone said on CDC that it was impossible for Lu to move for another 5-6 years, even if he requested a trade. They went on to say all NTC were different, such as Kaberle's. Toronto was able to move him because he was able to waive his NTC, unlike Lu's.

I dunno, being trapped somewhere for 6 years sound ridiculous..Especially if you were dying to leave
