But there's never been a discussion like that in this thread. It's always been about what color they are or what they look like, which I just don't understand. I just find it weird. It's not like they were even designed...Reebok or whatever just takes the team's colors and puts that on the pads. Otherwise, they look largely the same. | Well, there wouldn't be a discussion like that in this thread,
because people don't talk about gear performance (in general)
since this isn't a gear review thread.
And from my initial post,
I was simply commenting that I'm not a fan of that "Premiere IV" Reebok design.
But even if it's just colours, I think it's valid to comment on the colour scheme being used. Quote:

some of the veterans that still refuse to get one.
Within the next 5 years, most of those veterans will be retired.
So I guess that just leaves the enforcers...
Maybe it's an appearance thing, and they don't feel like they are intimidating if they get a visor... ?

If all the next gen players in the minor leagues are forced to wear cages or visors now, and they then enter NHL,
do you think even the next gen enforcers will start to accept wearing a visor as a common thing?

They'll pretty much be forced to take off their helmets to fight - increasing chance of concussion, which could take fighting out of the game... Could be part of the reason visors aren't mandatory yet. Domino effect. Posted via RS Mobile |

Posted via RS Mobile | I think there was an article featuring Tanner Glass who talked about this. Something along the lines of him always wearing while young, then when he hit the AHL he had to take it off in order to be one of the tough guys

Manny was neither a tough guy/enforcer, or yapper so.......
It all just goes back to comfort > safety. Just like disregarding safety, it's better to play with no helmet > helmet > helmet + half visor > helmet + full shield. Hell, I bet if full equipment wasn't a league mandate, you'd get a handful of NHLers that would play w/o shoulder pads.
To say that it's an inner culture unwritten rule thing that one abides by is nothing but a pure justificational reach.

ALL IS FORGIVEN | Team 1040 had a guy on the radio this morning by the name of Steve Simmons. He wrote a book that is out today that talks about Mike and the things that happened over the years. http://www.penguin.ca/nf/Book/BookDi...065295,00.html
Supposed Mike never responded to this guy's request about the book, but he wrote one anyways and there is a lot of detail about Mike's family including the relationship between him and his 7 years younger brother. The book talks about what happened when the brother was 13 and spend 2 weeks at Frost's cabin where he was verbally/physically/sexually abused by Frost and others while his brother stood and watched.
Don't know how credible this guy is, but he made it sound like Mike lied to many people including the parole board and may still have issues stemming from that Frost guy.

| Canucks vets to sit split-squad preseason openers Quote:
HODGSON IMPRESSES
Head coach Alain Vigneault said he's been impressed by Cody Hodgson so far in camp and he wants to give the team's first-round pick [10th overall] three years ago every opportunity at centre.
"Right now I really want to give him a chance in the middle, because that's his natural position," said Vigneault. "What I've seen the first three days, I've really liked. You're seeing more jump and obviously those offensive smarts are there. We'll try him there and as things unfold his play and the play of others will put the pieces together."
The opportunity for Hodgson to finally play in the top six has come up with the news that Ryan Kesler almost certainly won't start the season after hip labrum surgery. But Vigneault said it shouldn't be assumed that Hodgson would have to switch to wing when Kesler returns.
"There's nothing that stops us from putting Manny [third line centre Malhotra] on the wing and [still use him] for faceoffs," said Vigneault. "Manny has played a lot of left wing, so there is a whole bunch of possibilities. The players will decide. If a player is playing so well in one position that we can't take him out, we'll have to make some decisions."
| Looking forward to seeing what CoHo does.
