nice find 7seven.

actually while watching the fight develop on tuesday in the nucks opening pre season game, i felt a pit in my stomach. With what happened to Rypien and co this summer, i dont think ill ever see enforces fighting in the same light again

that being said, i dont think it would be appropriate to take fighting out of the game. you do need it to keep guys in check...which ironically the instigator rule negates.

The timing though is pretty bad. Didn't they JUST release videos for the new rules for boarding? Plus it's fucking pre-season and he's not a prospect trying to show off for the coaches, there was no need for that.

league should just start throwing out suspensions like candy on stuff like this.
That'll smarten players up.

Should just suspend him for the rest of pre-season and a few games in reg season...

This is just ridiculous. Do they need to start sewing on "STOP" signs on the back of the player's jerseys??

Wow you called it...

Modano to sign contract with Dallas; retire as a Star

What I don't understand is that he already announced his retirement, so I'm not sure if he'll actually play any games though. Assuming that's true, he's going to get $1M for nothing? At the very least, it's a classy move by the organization for a classy guy.

RiceIntegraRS 09-22-2011 09:30 AM

Im assuming 1mil/82 and thats how much he'll be paid. But really classy move by the organization. I like seeing that happen for players who wanna retire on the ice rather than just announcing it to the media. Makes it more special like the way Linden retired

Modano won't be retiring on the ice, he just signed a contract with Dallas just so he can officially retire right away as a Star. He won't play any games, its all just for formality.

The Stars will be holding a retirement ceremony for Mo tomorrow at 1pm.

hahaha similar, theres been trash talking sessions at work on set with Boston native Matt Damon who's in town filming

Stop the presses! The hard-partying Bruins [team stats], who have been tearing up the town since winning the Stanley Cup, refused a round of shots that “R.I.P.D.” star — and huge Canucks fan — Ryan Reynolds sent over to their table at Red Lantern the other night.

Hmmm . . . seems as though the Stanley Cup champs aren’t quite over the trash-talking, blind-siding and general bad behavior of the Vancouver crybabies during the finals!

Here’s what we know: The B’s and their posse — 22 of them — were dining in the Stanhope Street hot spot just a little too close to the Canadian-born Sexiest Man Alive, who felt the need to stand up for his hometown heroes. There was some, um, chatting back and forth, which, we’re told, resulted in RyReyn sending over 22 shots of tequila to the Black & Gold bunch. Quite sporting of him, but it didn’t make up for the hit on Horton, if you ask us . . .

Oddly, the Stanley Cup champs refused the liquid olive branch and offered the tequila to a table of bachelorette party revelers. . . .

Nice name-drop.

Kinda douchey of the Bruins for turning down the round if ya ask me.

Good for Rosehill, standing up for a teammate.

FFS get rid of the Instigator rule, let the players police themselves a little.

Letourneau-Leblond suspended five games for boarding

This was a relatively low-key incident during Tuesday's game in Vancouver. But what I found really nice is that on the TSN page, there's an actual video from Brendan Shanahan explaining why he handed out a 5-game suspension. That puts him miles ahead of Colin Campbell, in my books.

Mason Raymond breaks silence over Stanley Cup final injury - News1130

Quote:

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Canucks forward Mason Raymond spoke to the media today for the first time since breaking his back in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Bruins in Boston. Raymond says that he still does not have a firm timeline for his return and says that his status is indefinite.

Raymond, 26 hasn't been skating yet but has been working out in the gym and says that he had a back brace on until late July. "That was the most pain I've been in ever, when it initally happened," said Raymond. He's been keeping up his cardio but still has not been doing any heavy lifting.

The team originally predicted that Raymond would be out 4 to 6 months which would suggest a late November or early December return. Raymond says that Boston's Johnny Boychuk, who delivered the hit did contact him this summer. "I heard from Johnny, I guess, late July via text message and just kinda said he didn't mean to," said Raymond.

Raymond doesn't hold any resentment for Boychuk but admits it was frustrating that he couldn't finish the Stanley Cup Final and he is not able to start the season.

That's great news that Shanahan suspended that Calgary player. This should mean that Shelley will get suspended too. That was a disgusting, completely unnecessary hit especially in the PRE-SEASON. It's equivalent to a flagrant foul in the NBA during pre-season.. SMH :seriously:
