I like to fantasize about impossible scenerios, like GMMG dumping Ballard and Samuelsson's contracts, picking up Laich and Richards, re-signing Bieksa, Lapierre and Hansen.
This time of the year is the perfect time for pipedreams.
But in reality the most likely scenario in this off-season:
Re-sign Bieksa, Hansen, Lapierre, and maybe Ehrhoff
It'll be quite uneventful, but might be the best thing to do.
Even if Lu waives his NTC, there would only be a handful of teams that can and/or be willing to take his huge contract. Its not for just 3yrs, its for another 11yrs. So in essence, it is pretty much impossible to trade him.

The talk about trading Luongo is ridiculous. What needs to happen is that during the exit interviews, MG and AV need to tell Luongo that he will be on a shorter leash next year and that if he struggles in the playoffs, AV won't hesitate to put Schneider in. Moreover, AV should be given greater freedom to play the "percentages" (i.e. if Luongo can't play in a certain building for whatever reason, he goes with Schneids and vice versa)
This is what I see happening with our D:
- Gillis lets Erhoff walk if he asks for more than $4 million/year. I believe that if given the confidence, Ballard can fill in for Erhoff (he's just got to focus on making the simple plays in our zone.) He's just as weak defensively, but he has scored 30+ points in this league. The other 20 points can be made up for by committee. Perhaps Edler can learn to hit the net in the off-season?
- Salo takes a 1 year deal for $2.25 million with perhaps a bonus for games played.
- Juice signs a long-term deal in the range of $4.25 million.
- Alberts is let go and Tanev takes the spot of 6/7.

That's what should've happened this year. People can defend Luongo as much as they want, but he clearly doesn't play as well in the playoffs as he does during the regular season. The same could also be said for the team for the most part though
well, the difference was he played a lot better a home than he did away during the playoffs. all 4 shutouts came at home.
...except for the most important game of his life... game 7 of the cup finals. Not entirely his fault but he certainly didn't hold his ground to give the team a chance to bank one in.
Still hurts to think bout game 7. I didn't have a good feeling about it though.
Instead of game 7 against Hawks, Lu looked calm throughout the whole game..kinda had a different vibe
i think it could be better next year - being with a new goalie coach you have to adapt or change the certain style that play
i remember watching the game how they commentated lu used to be more like thomas - always fighting for the puck and hence, became his shortcoming in the past playoffs
he changed a bit of that and it brought in more success
in the end everything has to mesh together to win, tim thomas didnt win it by himself, the d in front of him helped him alot also - made sure there's no second chance.
Ya if Lu coulda got a shutout in game 7, our beat up and broken team woulda totally won 0-0! Its all his fault!
All the people saying trade Lu and buy out his contract are out to lunch. Canucks aint getting the 2011 version of Tim Thomas, so being 'stuck' with a top 3 in the league goalie is pretty alright.
Ya, Lu had some really fuckin bad games in the playoffs, but he also had some really fuckin good ones.
In 25 games, Lu had 15 games where he let in 2 or less goals.
In 25 games, Thomas had 16 games where he let in 2 or less goals. 6 of those were against the Canucks.
In 25 games, Lu let in 4 or more goals (or was pulled) 6 times, with Vancouver not able to win any of them
In 25 games, Thomas allowed 4 or more goals 5 times, with Boston still managing to win 2 of them
Even with the absolute meltdowns, Lu still had a better save % than guys like Michael Leighton and Antti Niemi (the two 'hero's of the 2010 playoffs), Ilya Bryzgalov, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Boucher, Pekka Rinne, and Jonathan Quick just to name a few. And just a hair worse than Henrik Lundqvist and Ryan Miller.
People really need to give Lu more credit than he gets.
Instead he's treated as the easiest and biggest scapegoat in the entire Canucks team. Sure he had his moments where he played shitty due to his meltdowns. In fact, he was absolute garbage during those meltdowns.
But honestly, you really can't stress enough on how much Lu has contributed to this team. We were the #1 team in the NHL season, and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals largely because of him.
Yes this is all pretty much a repeat on what many of you have said, but I really needed to just vent that out. Count your blessings Canuck fans.
