Fawk TSN, hire Ronin for Hockey2Nite as an analyst. 100% agree with you.
I actually WANT to keep Schneids right now. Unless he demands to be traded and wants to be a #1 goalie THAT's when we should trade him. I don't think he has an issue at all playing as backup. I expect he'll play 30-35 games next season.
The more he plays, the better the record, the better the trade value he has
Some Flyers fans suggest that JVR + Carter for Schneider + Ballard instead of signing Bryzgalov to a massive contract and having to deal two of their core players. Schneider not as young as most one-year goalies and even if he plays out of his mind next year, he won't demand $7m a year. Maybe $3m. Instead, they'll be paying Bryzgalov $10m next year, making a 31-year old goalie the highest paid player in the league. That just seems like a bad use of cap space.
That's one heck of a deal for the Canucks.
The Flyers probably could've done better. They got some high picks and a huge potential star in Brayden Schenn but that's potential when Richards and Carter were established stars in the NHL already...and still young.
I would rather sign Erik Cole as a UFA than fucking trade Schneider for Shane Doan.
Shit, I'd rather sign Alex Tanguay or Ville Leino or even Jussi Jokinen (at least the Canucks won't suck at shootouts...) to play with Kesler.
Just Ballard and a mid-round pick for Shane Doan would be a good deal for the Canucks but Schneider should bag us at least a high first rounder or at least a good defensive prospect and a decent second liner.
Leino would be a great addition
but keep schneider
I would be highly disappointed if Gillis didn't consider an offer for Schneids from Philly, I think he would've been a great fit with Philly's plans.

Those mad Philly fans need to listen to these words by Bryzgalov, he speaks the truth-"why you heff to be med?" The Flyers traded away the house for this:
I guess im the only one that thinks that Ballards stock has plummeted when he basically became our #9 defenceman this playoff. Hamhuis, Bieksa, Ehrhoff, Edler, Salo, Rome, Alberts, and Tanev were ahead of this guy. He makes Top 3 D money and hes in the doghouse with AV. At this point in time i wouldnt trade Schnieder for a draft pick unless it was top 5. Why trade a guy who we put 6+ years into developing for a draft pick who we will have to put atleast another 3+ years into developing.
Flyers were dead set on signing Bryz, all the way up to the owner. They weren't going to consider Schneider or any other goalie unless they couldn't come to terms with him (which they did a long time ago)

Unless Ballard bounces back this year (if even given the chance by AV) it'll be hard to move him and that fat contract (which is almost on the same level of the Bieksa deal currently being worked on).
Schenieds needs to stay as insurance (as well as a solid trade chip), and if he finds some way to play even better than he did last year, his stock goes up.

there is no doubt Ballard's stock plummeted. but many teams would pay decent for this guy. consider this..if the cap allows it, why wouldnt the canucks keep the depth.
unless something mindblowing comes through the doors, i can't really see the canucks doing much with the current rosters in terms of trading for pieces.
I dont see AV giving Ballard a fair chance, and even if he did, 4+Million is way too much to pay a defencemen whose gonna play less than 15 minutes a game.
The funny thing I noticed was during the regular season, I was like the only one complaining about Ballard's ice time. It wasn't til the end of the season/playoffs that everyone else finally started talking bout it lol.
Not even analysts were talking bout him until playoffs.
I was like ????? AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING THIS!?!? For most of the regular season.
Glad to see I wasn't crazy.

There were a TON of people in this thread alone complaining about that.

AV and Bowness both got fired for keeping an expensive 'star' in the dog house when they were in Ottawa. Of course, it turned out they were correct (the "star" was Alexandre Daigle) so maybe they're onto something with Ballard... just sayin

Actually analysts both on TV and on 1040 talked about it many times. It just wasn't the main topic that got talked to death because there were more important topics like the Canucks kicking ass.

Do you know who got paid $10 mill this year? Luongo. But thats not his cap hit and that isn't Bryzgalov's cap hit either. So it doesn't matter. (51/9 = 5.6 cap hit)
JVR + Carter for a backup goal (with lots of potential) and a expensive d-man who was benched in the Stanley Cup finals? Whoever suggested that is on crack. Crack.
Fact is both Richard's and Carter's production over the last two seasons have declined. Both had point totals in the 60's the last two seasons. Holmgren saw a trend. With the emergence of Giroux and JVR and addition of Schenn (who has a much higher ceiling then Richards) they look set for their top 6. Deepest D in the league as well. Now with Bryz who is a bonafide top 10 goalie in the league, the Flyers are fine.
^Who would you rather pay 10mill? Luongo or Bryzgalov?
I honestly don't think Gillis will trade Schneider or Ballard, he'll probably wait till trade deadline unless he really needs to dump Ballard's contract before the season starts.
Ah, Alexandre Daigle...other than Patrick Stefan, he has to be the most hilarious #1 pick.
Ottawa basically tanked a whole season on purpose to get him.
Yup and the Nordiques tried to trade all their Lindros players to get him. Imagine that. The Sens could have won the cup in 95 instead of the Avs... Posted via RS Mobile
