was Daigle projected as the next Gretzky or some shit?

SkinnyPupp 06-24-2011 02:48 AM

Pretty much. He was a pure sniper in the minors, and he had star charisma and looks. Unfortunately he didn't really care about hockey, and just rode on his natural talent in an attempt to be a star. He cared more about being a star than a good hockey player. He attempted 2 comebacks but those failed. He ended up playing in Europe before retiring.

he was supposed to be really good.
he had two decent season with 51 pts... but other than that...

He didn't need to work for his money either.
He got offered 12.25mil for 5 years right off the bat,
before the rookie salary cap existed.

I think Patrik Stefan was probably a better pick...
but partially was because Stefan's career was much shorter, and he had less time to embarrass himself.
(although everyone remembers how he missed the empty net point blank)

:lol I just realized Daigle's first 4 seasons with Ottawa, he was -45, -22, -30, -33
His line must really suck, or maybe Ottawa was really bad back then. I can't remember. Those +/- stast are ridiculous.

Yup, everyone was certain he'd be the next Gretzky/Lemieux. Daigle just had so much natural talent with hockey, he put in so little effort and still managed 20+ goal seasons in the NHL.

I remember after he was done in the NHL he gave an interview where he admitted he didn't actually like playing hockey and just did it for the money. He used his NHL money to start a film production company and attempted a career in acting that didn't go so well. Daigle was more interested in dating Hollywood actresses and trying to be an actor than in playing hockey. What a waste of talent.

Yes Ottawa was that bad in the early - mid 90s, it was an absolute joke.

Speaking of ex-NHLers, I heard somewhere that Anson Carter was putting together a group to buy the Atlanta Trashers before they moved to the Peg.

Anyone know what he has done with his career? Last I heard was that he founded a music label and has signed some really big artists and doing really well for himself?

I'm pretty excited about the draft tonight, Hopefully there are still some large trades today

MR_BIGGS 06-24-2011 08:01 AM

Winnipeg will announce the name of their team before they make their pick tonight.

I thought I was going to have hockey withdrawal, but yesterday was pretty exciting, and the anticipation for July 1st being around corner, I'm good for the next week.

its a given that you have to do that....I consider today Day 9 A.D. and only watching anything related to hockey will help rebuild what was destroyed inside me

Don't, it's a waste of time. Just getting updates online/twitter is sufficient really.

There's no hype to this year's draft. Doesn't seem to be any big superstars this year.

b0unce. [?] 06-24-2011 08:23 AM

yeah there's no marquee players in this draft. it'll still be good though.

the old one was fine. the home jersey is way too bright. color pattern on the away jersey looks similar to the ducks one.

True but I also like to see new logos/jerseys get introduced. Like the Nashville.. I like the new logo, but I don't like the lines across the numbers (fucken guitar strings), or the little "Nashville" in the corner.

Here's the new logo, those jerseys may not be the final version. The logo is:

I also want to see what kind of crazy trades happen.. like Philly WTF?

b0unce. [?] 06-24-2011 08:53 AM

I'd be happy with Stastny or Wolski

Expresso 06-24-2011 09:04 AM

I didn't mind the Pred's Alternate. Its too bad they barely used it during the season. Anything that doesn't have the mustard colour is  in my books.

You guys remember when Daigle said "I'm glad I got drafted first, because no one remembers number two"
Check out number 2
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_NHL_Entry_Draft

But yea Ottawa sucked hard. But I think that was only their second year. It was awesome back then cause if you could pick a game that Ottawa won, Sports Action was offering 8.00+ odds.
