VOTE FOR RORY!!!

I still can't believe they almost pulled it off....

spoon.ek9 06-24-2011 10:08 AM

i'm sure jets fans will be happy to retain the previous name. it wasn't about how well the team did back then but rather returning what was stolen from them.

ahahha i remember that....was the voting not alterted for him to loose at the end? I remember that he was winning and then at the last minute he lost

sonick 06-24-2011 10:24 AM

Ya I am pretty sure he won but NHL likely tampered with the results to not look like fools.

Apparently Smyth to Calgary is a done deal for late round pick(s). They are waiting for Flames owners to approve the deal. Talk about Calgary wanting ex-oilers players. Staois/Smyth/Glencrosse.

kristianhay 06-24-2011 10:37 AM

Looks like they're pretty uncertain though.

Potential Ryan Smyth deal needs to be approved by Cgy ownership. Possibility the answer would be "no".

MR_BIGGS 06-24-2011 10:44 AM

Isn't getting Smyth a step back for Calgary if they give up picks?

How bad can playing in LA possibly be. LA has a legit chance to challenge for the cup and he wants to move to EDM or CAL? Odd...

With an aging 35 year old 3rd liner making $4.5 million? I love you, Calgary management!

What Calgary really needs is a centreman. Not another winger. Smyth can still produce but they don't need someone like that to win.

spoon.ek9 06-24-2011 10:53 AM

they still have a bunch of former leafs too, don't they?

Tim Budong 06-24-2011 10:57 AM

Smyth will ruin that team in CGY...oh well

4.5? Try 6.25 (his cap hit). LOL @ the Lames, looks like another rough year ahead.

Too late. Looks like Feaster is taking over right where Dutter left off. LOL those Bourque/Stajan/Hagman/Kotalik signings and contracts (with NTC's!) are real beauties.

It's LA that wants to unload Smyth, old, declining production carrying a $6.25mil cap hit, that is brutal. Smyth would prefer to go back to Edmonton where he has family and owns a business there.

His cap hit is a ridiculous $6.25 million tho hahaha. I want to see this happen for 2 reasons, sets Calgary back and annoys Oilers' fans. lol

Thanks, I got the $4.5m figure from a tweet. $6.25m cap hit makes the schadenfreude of the demise of the Flames so much sweeter if they get Smyth.

Rumor is Flames ownership has said no to the Smyth deal. How can that feel, as a GM, when the owners don't even have faith in your decisions, and feel they know better whats best for the team? Who's wearing the pants in this relationship!? lol

The owners always wear the pants.

We are just lucky that Aquaman actually believes enough in Gillis that he lets him borrow it year round. Don't fool yourself to thinking that this happens everywhere. Gillis is a GREAT GM thus far but the moment he starts making crazy deals, you can be sure that Aquaman will take it right back.

Stajan and Hagman are still there from the trade with Mayers, and White for Phaneuf, Aulie, Sjostrom

Modin was there from a trade with the Thrashers for a 7th round pick

hotshot1 06-24-2011 12:27 PM

I think it's pretty obvious that Calgary's not gonna challenge for the cup next season so if they get rid of some bad multi-year contracts for Smyth (his contract has 1 yr left), they can start rebuilding with a bunch of cap space after next year. So depending on who they trade, it might not be a bad idea.

Ch28 06-24-2011 12:37 PM

@TSNBobMcKenzie: As per @DarrenDreger, Leafs acquire J M Liles from COL for 2nd rd pick.
