Tampa ended up winning the game in a shootout. I would've paid money to see Moore, after scoring the SO winner, skate by the Rangers bench and pull the same rifle move at Anisomov.
lol not that the NHL is trying to extinguish moves like Anisomov pulled, but that other players will take this taunting into their own hands
its good entertainment if anything. a little controversy never hurt

Celebrating is fine, but directing it at the other team is crossing the line. If Anisimov "fired his gun" at a random direction, that's fine. But by aiming at Garon, that's taunting/mocking...
Anisimovs celebrating was
Its a bit childish for lecavilier(sp?) and downie to go after a guy just cuz he fired an imaginary gun at your goalie LOL
Apparently this Leaf Fan does not like Jim Hughson. Maybe he would trade Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes for him!

Part of me is saddened that Saturday night hockey on CBC may be no more. It’s a Canadian institution and their production values are second to none. That said, the program has stagnated for years, the on-air “talent” is an embarrassment, and more often than not I watch the games on mute so I don’t have to hear Jim Hughson’s affectations and Glen Healy’s horrific combination of smug, snark and stupid.
Can't believe Toronto hates Hughson. We think of him as a god among commentators.
Interesting how the mindset is so different in the two cities.

From what I've gathered, some seem to think AV resents guys like Cody, Grabner and Shirokov because they had all this offensive hype before earning regular roles in the NHL, so AV is extra hard on them because it annoys him. Whereas AV is easier on guys like Rome, Alberts, Bolduc & Desbiens because they remind him of himself when he was a player.
This could have some truth to it. Afterall, Ballard is probably the highest paid 6th/7th d-man in the league.
Rome/Burrows on the point for pp over Ballard???? Come on now.
I used to be a big supporter of AV but this season I've finally stopped giving a crap if he was fired.

Toronto got so used to getting a general summarision 2 plays late from Bob Cole and Hairy Neal they cant keep up with Jim Hughson. Jim Hughson is so great at commentary that by listening to him you can see the game without watching it, hes fantastic for the old-time radio commentary style. But you can argue he doesn't really jazz up a TV broadcast.
lol from Cole's wikipedia

Some of his more famous phrases include "Oh baby!" and "Scores!"/"Holy cow" He is known particularly for 'Colisms' (such as "Heavens to Betsy!", "Oh Nelly!", and the trademark "What a dandy!" used to describe a great game) as well as for slowly emphasizing each word when an exciting play has happened ("Can he do it again? Scores! Pec–a– does– it– a–gain!"). Other common phrases made by Cole are: "He's a goalie, yes sir, and a good one at that!" after a great save, "He was nailed" after a great hit, and "Alexei Ponikarovsky takes a soft dump in the corner!" after a player would deftly and gently dump the puck in the corner behind the goalie.
Some notable stylistic traits of Cole's calls include both a trademark cadence that trots and gallops independent of the pace of play, as well as a general ambiguity towards puck location and its possessors: "They. are. doing it folks. they. are. doing it now!" "He. tried to. GO IN THERE!" "There's a drive. ANOTHER ONE!" Bob also has a proclivity for referring to the game itself as "this baby." "Pittsburgh better get a quick one here. or this baby's gonna be Over!" or "Scores! And this baby is tied."
In describing a great play, he would use the term: "Now THAT...(pause)... was a piece of hockey!"
I can hear him say each of those phrases so clearly

You think taunting and mocking is only isolated to celebrations?
Go play hockey in even the slightest competitive setting. It can be verbal, and physical and more times far more hurtful than a goal celly. And guess what... in hockey, verbal and/or physical taunting can even be a common practice in a competitive setting that at times it's even a part of the game as a "game-within-the-game."
Hockey players (and it's fans) need to start growing a thick skin and give their balls a tug. As it is, there's more toughness in a woman's roller derby game than it is hockey's supposed top level league, the NHL.
Give them Weekes/Lee and they'll beg Hughson to come back. I think our resident leafs fan has mentioned Hughson's western bias is obvious but appreciates his commentating talent.

I think so too.
I actually thought NFL banned spiking the ball after touchdowns, but only if directed to a specific player. But general spiking the ball celebration is okay.

He was talking in my head as I was reading those quotes
Cole is such a great announcer in some ways, even though he started to lose it about 15 years ago.
But even if you forget that he started out calling Canucks TV games, Jim Hughson is really the best hockey announcer since Cole.
