Raymond 2.55 mil, RFA next year
Hodgson, 1.66, 1.66, RFA
Ballard 4.2 TIMES FOUR

Perry 5.325, 5.325, UFA

They'd be crazy not to take that if it was legit

Hondaracer 01-06-2012 08:14 AM

Giving up Hodgson would be a blow but perry brings grit not many skilled guys have

Someone offered me Perry and Kesler for Ovie...

If the trade is legit I just might consider it lol

Hondaracer 01-06-2012 09:06 AM

Only thing with trading Ballard is that you are making the depth of the d-core even weaker than it already is

RiceIntegraRS 01-06-2012 09:22 AM

Rome and his salary > Ballard and his salary. If we have a chance to get rid of Ballard id pull the trigger in a heartbeat. We have plenty of capable defencemen that can fill his shoes and for alot cheaper

spoon.ek9 01-06-2012 09:36 AM

i dunno man.. alberts and rome are okay for 5th, 6th, or 7th D-man but if someone gets injured (and that's more than likely to happen) what then?

maybe Tanev, or Sauve but i'd pass on Parent, Baumgartner, and the rest. Ballard is here for depth and he is more than capable of doing that on the 3rd pairing. I will reserve any further judgment on Ballard's play until after we've seen what he will do in this year's playoffs.

Gumby 01-06-2012 10:23 AM

Wow... Cory Schneider to start on Saturday?

Not an easy decision.

jeedee 01-06-2012 10:29 AM

Confirmed:

"@VanCanucks: Cory Schneider will start tomorrow vs. Bruins."

--

I kind of agree with the decision and Valks opinion. Lu is one of the best--if not the best goalie at home. But on the road, he plays like its his first time playing as a goaltender..

Maybe its to test the "lu at home and schneids on the road" playoff theory.

OR

It could be AV is giving Schneids the chance to play infront of his family :lol

Not really racist! 01-06-2012 10:29 AM

I have faith in Cory.

sonick 01-06-2012 10:30 AM

wtf why? It's not a back to back or anything. If it was any other team other than Boston do people think Schneider would still be starting? I am not so sure.

spoon.ek9 01-06-2012 10:32 AM

what the fuck.... it's not a lack of faith in Cory but Lu has earned this start. weird.

Strong this. Lu's great when he's on top of his game. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't play well on the road.

Renthal 01-06-2012 10:40 AM

luu's fragile confidence is high right now, and the recent memory of boston winning the cup.. why not roll cory who is quite capable and see what happens

he has to play better the irving and calgary!

Gumby 01-06-2012 10:54 AM

Coach explains his decision:

Quote:

AV: We're starting Cory as it is his first chance in five years to play in his hometown.

Vansterdam 01-06-2012 11:02 AM

Cory Schneider to start 10am game in his hometown

this should be interesting

dimsum then 10am drinkfest :troll:

cliffhanger33 01-06-2012 11:04 AM

Schneider will start at Boston tmr

SumAznGuy 01-06-2012 11:08 AM

Don't forget, Lu isn't going to play all 42 games remaining this season.
Plus this gives Schnides a chance to play in front of his family. Win for everyone in the Canucks in this case.

cliffhanger33 01-06-2012 11:09 AM

I'm happy for schneids

Anyone think AV is trolling everyone and he will be starting Luongo instead?

Did anyone hear the discussion between Don Taylor and Gary Valk on Sportsnet Pacific about which goalie should play on Saturday? I agree with Don on Luongo starting. Valk says that the coach should "throw a bone" to Schneider and play him on Saturday because he's from Boston and friends and family will be watching the game. Huh?

-don't agree with Valk's argument about starting a goalie just because his family and friends want to watch him play.

He's playing well right now and he needs to redeem himself.

These. Especially what Ronin said.

I actually think this... gives Luongo a chance to avoid the tons of media questions before the game... I'm sure they're sick of the media grilling them already... everyone just wants to get out there and show the haters that they can get the job done.

AV's "reason" to start Cory seems like a pretty lame/weak reason imo

seakrait 01-06-2012 11:30 AM

Management probably thinks that playing Luu is too big a risk for his fragile psyche especially since we're only halfway through the season. Win big in Boston with Schneids, great. Lose big, Luu still keeps his confidence. Lose big in Boston with Luu, bad times.

It's an interesting decision to start Schneids. If your theory is true, then there is some huge problem with Lu going forward (fragile psyche). Who says another team can't light him up like the Hawks and Bruins? If anything, it's Lu that has to get himself out of this notion he got himself in. Hence, I think Lu should play tomorrow. Schneider will have every opportunity to play in his hometown in the future.

Lu has played well in the past 10 games to get the start. Unless of course management is showcasing Schneids to Eastern teams in anticipation of a trade. But that seems unlikely to happen.

So this decision confuses me. I don't remember the last time a coach based his decision to start a player based on his hometown preference. So does this mean Albert gets to play on the first line with Sedins because he is also from Boston?:suspicious:

punkwax 01-06-2012 11:43 AM

Nice for Schneids to play in his home town, BUT Boston is going to think the Nucks are being pussies by not playing Lu imo...

RRxtar 01-06-2012 12:14 PM

look at how Boston has been playing lately. They very well could light the canucks up for 6 goals. What would that do to Lu? If it happens to Cory, oh well. If it happens to Lu that could turn him into Cloutier.

Combine that with how absolutely terrible Lu plays in morning games. I think its the right call.
