My predictions for tonights game is 3 - 0

SkinnyPupp 01-09-2012 06:51 AM

Lucic won't be suspended, they already revoked the misconduct he got.

Marchand is a repeat offender, so I'm sure he'll get something

shawn79 01-09-2012 06:56 AM

The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired head coach Scott Arniel. The move comes a day after the Blue Jackets were defeated 7-4 by the Anaheim Ducks in a meeting of the NHL's worst teams.

Assistant coach Todd Richards will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

The Blue Jackets are 11-25-5 this season, which has them last in the Western Conference with a league-low 27 points - 20 points out of a playoff position.

"We have two wins in our last 11 games," general manager Scott Howson said. "I just wanted to move the team in a new direction with a different head coach. Scott tried everything and he was running out of answers. I didn't see much hope in moving forward with him. I just felt this needed to be done."

Arniel is the seventh NHL coaching change this season. St. Louis, Washington, Carolina, Anaheim, Los Angeles and Montreal all previously dismissed coaches.

Arniel, who was the fifth head coach in Blue Jackets history, was in his second season behind the bench in Columbus and was coming off a debut campaign where his team finished 13th in their conference, missing the playoffs by 16 points. He compiled a 45-60-18 record in 123 games with the club.

The 49-year-old bench boss was hired to replace veteran coach Ken Hitchcock who was fired during the 2009-10 season.

Prior to taking the job with the Blue Jackets, Arniel was the head coach of the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Richards, who joined the club as an assistant coach on June 20, 2011, will make his debut behind the Blue Jackets bench on Tuesday when the club visits the Chicago Blackhawks.

"There's one emotion that's real prevalent right now and that's just disappointment," said Richards. "When somebody has to go, somebody that brought you in as a coach ... I think you feel more responsible as an assistant because you're there to support the head coach and help him out.

"You feel afterwards there's more you could have done, more you should have done."

The 45-year-old compiled a 77-71-16 record as the head coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2009-11. He was named the second head coach in Wild history on June 16, 2009 and led the club to a 38-36-8 record in 2009-10 and a 39-35-8 mark in 2010-11. Prior to joining the Wild, he served as an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks in 2008-09 when the club compiled an NHL-best 53-18-11 record.
Blue Jackets fire coach Arniel; assistant Richards takes over

Thought it would have come sooner. This is probably the season that has had to most head coaches fired.

Wonder if they'll call in Carlyle...

CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Hockey NHL - Los Angeles - Penner sidelined by pancakes

Quote:

Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Penner says he was injured while eating a plate of pancakes over the weekend, sidelining him for a game.

"Apparently it's one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it [back] out [from] sneezing," the L.A. Kings Insider reported Penner saying.

"I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made. It's just like it [the pain] wraps around you and squeezes. So it was disappointing. Hopefully it's just an isolated incident, and not something that's going to become chronic."

He said his back hurt so bad he needed his wife's help to put on his clothes.
hahaha this is almost as bad as Sopel throwing his back out picking up a cracker

Even if he does, which I hope he does, I'm not expecting much since it is over the phone and not an in person meeting. :heckno:

MR_BIGGS 01-09-2012 10:56 AM

Over the phone so it will be less than 5 games. I'm thinking he should get 1-2 games, but hell who knows.

rsx 01-09-2012 11:07 AM

Looks awfully familiar.

spoon.ek9 01-09-2012 11:08 AM

Raymond did that in response to Marchand flipping Daniel after the whistle in our end. It was in a previous game too I believe.

Marchand's excuse about protecting himself is such a joke. He knew it was Salo and when has Salo ever been a dirty player, let alone do a dirty hit. I won't be surprised if he only gets 1 game just like Lucic earlier this year.

skippynixx 01-09-2012 12:19 PM

The only difference to me is Marchand is not injury prone

thats only because he waived his right

blum2001 01-09-2012 12:22 PM

I don't see marchand getting anything more than a 2 game suspension. Boston's still in bed with the league even though Colin Campbell isn't running the show.

If he gets the book thrown at him..... to Shanahan

RRxtar 01-09-2012 12:34 PM

the main difference betweeen the raymond and marchand hits

mayray was carying the puck and flipped it passed marchand and then tried to squeek by him. marchand was taking a run at raymond

marchand and salo were both going for a loose puck and marchand chose to take out salos ankles instead of play the body/puck. salo was skating in to play the puck. marchand didnt even touch the puck.

they look like the same hit: guy going low, other guy dumping over the top. but the PLAYs were completely different.

RRxtar 01-09-2012 12:39 PM

this is a new thing that seems to be popping up in the last few years more often tho. guys seeing a guy coming in at them and going low to get out of the way of the check. guys used to brace to take the hit, or try to move to the side. this new thing leaves players so vulnerable. you take out a guys legs whos moving with momentum and suddenly they are now going to hit wherever they land head first. i think there were a couple times last season where the guy went low to get out of the way of the hit and the guy went over the top face first into the boards. that shit is dirty and dangerous.

i bet you they dont teach that in pee-wee when they introduce body contact.
