people are forgetting about connaughton (sp?) too. kids got a hell of a shot and offensive mind but his defense is definitely sketchy still.

Not true. We'd need to sign Dave Semenko to be his bodyguard.

V. Bure: Gillis and the Canucks are pathetic Quote:
A fired-up Valeri Bure slammed the Vancouver Canucks and his former agent-turned GM Mike Gillis, calling them "pathetic" for not retiring his brother Pavel Bure's number.
On Team 1040 to talk about Pavel getting passed over again for the Hockey Hall of Fame, Val took aim at Gillis and ripped the organization for failing to recognize Pavel by retiring his number.
“I think Mike Gillis not retiring his number is pathetic, without him they might not have a GM place now,” Valeri said. “The way that Mike Gillis handled himself when the people asked him why Pavel Bure's jersey is not up he said something like 'I'll decide when his jersey goes up' And I thought who gives you the authority to decide. Who are you? You are an ex-agent who got paid by my brother a lot of money, got paid by a lot of players a lot of money, now those players got you that job and now you've got to decide who's jersey is going up or not. This is just absolutely crazy, crazy talk by him and that's one of the things that bother me.”
"(Gillis) has been great for the organization, and it's not that Markus Naslund's jersey went up, so, well my brother's should go up.
"His jersey should be up for what he's done."
Up to now, it's been unclear whether Pavel even wanted to be honoured. But his brother sure made a strong case he does. Valeri said he didn't have bad blood with Gillis and didn't think there was any between his brother and Gillis.
Val also compared his brother to Wayne Gretzky and suggested the Florida Panthers should also retire his number.

I checked to see how many players have numbers retired and its around 95 (canucks have 3) As much as I like Bure I think you have to be good on and off ice to deserve your number retired....and from what I remember Bure was only amazing on ice
I just assumed he would be in the ring of honor this year though

I just assumed he would be in the ring of honor this year though | bure was incredible during his prime, he was no doubt the most exciting player the canucks have ever had, his numbers reflected that. i would be fine if bure's number was retired, at the same time, i don't think people would be that hurt if they dont retire his number.
regarding his HHOF induction, i dont think he'll make it in. the competition's he got is pretty nutty. with a shortened career, it definitely hurts his chances too much.

No one here or anywhere gives a shit what Valeri Bure has to say. He was a merely average player in the NHL. I bet Gillis is laughing his head off at this. Oh noes, he's being criticized by a guy that never scored a goal in the playoffs. If his name wasn't Bure, no one would remember this guy.
I listened to his interview on Team1040 and it just sounded like a jaded retired player that's trying to get his name back in the papers and out of insignificance.

And Bure might get consideration for HoF in a slow year but he should not have his number retired by the Canucks.

The numbers alone PROVE Pavel Bure deserves to be in the HHOF. It's the hockey hall of fame so the criteria should be players who were exceptionally skilled and gifted. Even if Pavel was labelled as a "selfish" or not a model citizen as a player it should not matter at all.
Arguably Bure has accomplished much more as a Canuck then Naslund did. But again it's the way he left, which is why his number isn't retired.

The criteria for players to make the HOF doesn't seem to have much to do with their humility off the ice. Ed Belfour was a prick to reporters and the media, but they looked at his numbers and he deserves to be there.

The HOF is starting to get a bottleneck of players as the ones from the 90's ish generation start to gain eligibility. I mean there's Sakic, Curtis Joseph and Shanahan just to name a few guys who are able to go in next year.
IMO, the three guys I mentioned get in, leaving only 1 more spot...Bure isn't getting in with that competition.
Edit: Found the list for next year:
* Jeremy Roenick
* Mats Sundin
* Joe Sakic
* Curtis Joseph
* Brendan Shanahan
* Olaf Kolzig
* Teppo Numminen
* Markus Naslund
* Gary Roberts
* Claude Lemieux
* Bobby Holik

As per @GMillerTSN, LAK not happy to learn Colin Fraser, part of EDM Smyth deal, is apparently "injured." Not able to be bought out now.
| Quote:
TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
LAK could petition NHL to reverse Smyth trade with EDM, but won't obviously happen because Kings don't want Smyth's salary back on the books
| So to summarize:
*Kings and Oilers talk to send Smyth back to Oilers
*Kings tell Oilers they just need a player and a pick back and they will buyout whatever player
*Oilers tell Kings, take Brule, he's healthy and can be bought out
*Oilers refuse to certify in writing Brule is healthy
*Brule is injured and can't be bought out
*Trade falls through
*Oilers and Kings then settle on Colin Fraser and pick for Smyth
*Oilers assure Kings verbally Fraser is healthy and can be bought out
*Fraser is not healthy and stuck on the Kings for full cap hit and contract limit
Wow talk about shady, dirty, slimey bush league organizations. Oilers and Tambo |

A couple of updates
Blue Jackets' beat writer is reporting that Wisnewski is currently at Nationwide Arena meeting the teams staff and could expect a signing this afternoon.
Regier at the Regher press conference has said that he has spoken to Ehrhoff and his agent this morning and an offer was presented to them, he expects a decision by this afternoon. Ehrhoff has since called former Sharks teammates and former Sabres Craig Rivet and Mike Grier today to ask questions about living and playing in Buffalo. Current Sabre Jochen Hecht and former Sabre Uwe Krupp have both been in contact in Germany with Ehrhoff about playing in Buffalo. Ehrhoff's wife has also been in contact with Kim Pegula, the Sabres' owner's wife about the Buffalo area.
Rumor is Wisnewski is looking at $5.2M per cap hit for 5-6 years and Ehrhoff asking price is at least $5.5M cap hit, as he wanted from the Canucks.
If both sign, that leaves Anton Babchuk as the top UFA Dman come July 1st? haha
Nashville buys out JP Dumont and confirms they will not resign Shane O'Brien.

Wow talk about shady, dirty, slimey bush league organizations. Oilers and Tambo | Now in addition to this, it turns out Oilers submitted medical records saying Fraser's foot was healed. Medical examination proved that to be false haha, oh god, the Oilers are like a used car dealership on Kingsway.
From Kings beat writer: Quote:
helenenothelen Helene Elliott
Apparently Oilers' medical reports said Fraser was healed. Kings' personnel found otherwise
| Quote:
helenenothelen Helene Elliott
But likelihood of Kings and Oil trading again in future is, um, small.
| Quote:

Smyth trade won't be voided. Kings and Oil will try to work this out.
