or Ian White, Paul Mara

I don't see them going after Jovo or McCabe which would be the other big names

Hodgson for Ehrhoff? :troll:

No one I'd really want from the Sabres apart from maybe Tyler Ennis. Interesting kid with good upside.

Drew Stafford at $4m is meh.

RT @tsnbobmckenzie: Christian Ehrhoff has agreed to terms on a contract with the Buffalo Sabres.
Well, that's done with.

LSF22 06-30-2011 02:08 PM

^ wish him well and glad he's not going to Detroit

Gumby 06-30-2011 02:08 PM

Phew - was hoping he wouldn't end up in Detroit.

Guess that officially means we won't be seeing the blitzkreig gif anymore. :)

krazynuck 06-30-2011 02:10 PM

bitter sweet news

Retarded on my part to completely forget about Edmonton wanting to shed a contract as small as it is. Everything else makes sense now, carry on.

LA could have just thrown Brule/Fraser down into minors and if they don't clear waivers LA would be on the hook for half the cap hit with the claiming team picking up the other half, if they do clear then there's no cap hit, right? So it's not like LA doesn't have options.

i think his second criteria was to play with a cup contender - nyi is defn not and will never be :fullofwin:

highfive 06-30-2011 02:24 PM

hahaha IF we need to trade Ballard, his stock just went up!

Trade Ballard to Detroit for...... LOL

I can only think of Datsyuk (I wish). or Franzen.

I wouldn't expect him to realistically play out that 10 year term, just like Luongo will likely be retire before his 13 year term is up. If the contract is front loaded enough, he will have made the majority of his $$ in the first half of the deal and the latter years of the deals are likely worth ~1M/season.

Let's see what Bettman has to say about Air Hoff's deal

fliptuner 06-30-2011 02:25 PM

That's what I meant. The money wasn't everything but the deal with BUF was more money+contender+long term. Rumour has it, 5.3m cap hit.

dyan 06-30-2011 02:32 PM

Dont think BUF will be a contender anytime soon, they are still rebuilding.

MR_BIGGS 06-30-2011 02:34 PM

10 years 40 million for the german

d1 06-30-2011 02:36 PM

Sucks to lose Ehrhoff but at least he didn't sign with a western conference team.

With Miller in net and Ehrhoff and Regehr joining Leopold and Myers they make the playoffs and anything can happen.

Miller will easily get 37 - 42 wins

enough for sure to have Buffalo be in the top 6 in the East

wow, if ehrhoff was really looking for 10 yrs with us, i'm glad gillis didn't sign him. especially if it were the rumoured $5.5mil/yr for a decade....

dyan 06-30-2011 02:45 PM

That would make 55M/10yrs; the speculation is 40M/10yrs which would make it a 4M cap hit, very reasonable for the next 4-6 years as long as he can maintain something close to his current level of play. As fans, what the player actually earns in a given year is irrelevant, it's all about the cap hit :)
